Celebrate everything arts and culture from Sept. 26 to 28! Now in its fifth year, Culture Days invites everyone to explore, discover and participate in arts and culture events in every community across the country. Culture Days events are free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate "behind the scenes" to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators and designers at work in their communities. OSHAWA DOORS OPEN - FREE CAMP-X WALKING TOUR
|
On Sept. 27, take a day to discover a significant piece of Canadian history on a guided tour of Camp-X, as part of Doors Open Oshawa events. Discover the top-secret site that was once the training school for double agents during World War II. Visitors will learn about the day-to-day activities of spy training, stories of adventure, and the crucial role Camp-X played in the outcome of World War II.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

Celebrate the 2014 Harvest Festival on 15 acres of orchards and vineyards at Ocala Winery, in Scugog. Enjoy a relaxing ride through the vineyard, before learning about the art of wine making, while experiencing Ocala's unique, renovated 100-year-old dairy farm. Wine tasting is also available.

Join in on an adventure of countryside beauty and art. The Uxbridge Studio Tour will venture to 29 various galleries, workshops and other sites to delight and inspire the inner artist. Enjoy the splendor of art and the scenic landscapes of north Durham. On this self-guided tour you'll find photographers, wood workers, stone carvers, painters and artists. The Uxbridge Studio tour is yours to discover, in a varied mix of vision and art.

40TH ANNIVERSARY
|
Look who's 40! The Regional Municipality of Durham is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special event open to all residents. There's fun to be had for all with activities for children, a free barbecue, special guests, live music and much more. Come join us on Sept. 9 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Durham Regional Headquarters in Whitby to learn more about how the Region came to be the strong community it is today. The Space Invaders are coming! From Sept. 19 to 27, vacant commercial spaces in downtown Oshawa will be occupied by more than 200 artists who will create rare and exceptional art installations. This display of creative genius exhibits the abundance of visual arts talent from around Durham Region. There's much to enjoy, with culinary creations, live musical performances, theatre, mixed media and visionary creations of everything art.

IT'S APPLE SEASON
|
There's nothing like the mouthwatering aroma of warm apple pie, especially when the apples are picked right here in Durham Region. Fall marks the perfect time of year to pick fresh ingredients right from the farm. Make a day of it at one of the agricultural gems across Durham Region. Enjoy the remaining days of summer and welcome the harvest season with fall fairs. The Uxbridge Fall Fair takes place Sept. 5 to 7 and the Orono Fair runs from Sept. 4 to 7, featuring many exciting events including a tractor pull, demolition derby, agriculture demonstrations, shows and more. In the Township of Brock, the Sunderland Fall Fair runs Sept. 9 and 10, then the 161st Beaverton Fall Fair, runs from Sept. 12 to 14. See you at the midway!
