HSD STUDENTS LAUNCH ANTI-BULLYING CAMPAIGN

Student-led campaign is rolling out to all high schools this month

High school students on the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council (YAC) spent last school year putting together an anti-bullying campaign in collaboration with the non-profit organization Lines for Life. Their tagline is "Re:Think, Re:Define, Where do you stand?" and it asks their peers to think before they act and examine what it means to be a true friend.

Click here to view the students' video and read more about the district's and Hilhi's bullying prevention efforts.
Principal Arturo Lomeli and senior Alicia de Jesus Hernandez pose with one of the campaign's promotional signs that talks about "frenemies" - people who say they're your friend, but whose words and actions are more like those of an enemy.
THOUGHTEXCHANGE PROCESS BEGINS TODAY
Share your thoughts about our schools

Last week we told you that the District would be opening a broad community dialogue about our schools through an input-gathering process moderated by Thoughtexchange. That process begins today! You should receive an invitation e-mail with a link to begin the process sometime on Monday, October 6. If you don't receive the e-mail or if you know of someone else who might like to participate, please follow this link to self-register. For more information, click here.

NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION WEEK

October 5 - 11 is a great time to check your smoke detectors and fire escape routes
Washington County firefighters talked to West Union students about fire prevention.

To commemorate National Fire Prevention Week, members of Washington County Fire District 2 were out at West Union Elementary this morning teaching fifth- and sixth-graders how to be better prepared for fire emergencies. Important lessons  for the kids were to ask their parents to check their smoke detectors for fresh batteries and replace the detectors after 8-10 years. Firefighters also reminded them to work with their parents on escape routes from the home. You can learn more here.
