Marijuana in Indian Country:
A Legal, Economic, and Political Analysis

NAFOA will host a webinar featuring a discussion by industry and legal experts on the legal, economic, and political risks and opportunities of marijuana in Indian Country on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. EST.

The recent release of the Department of Justice's (DOJ) Memorandum on Marijuana in Indian Country has sparked serious conversation on the potential economic and political impacts that marijuana could have for tribes. With recreational sales of marijuana in Colorado reporting in at approximately $39 million, tribes are considering the prospective economic benefits and social impacts of foregoing or entering into the marijuana industry. Attend this webinar to gain insight on important considerations concerning the agricultural production, processing, and distribution of marijuana on tribal lands.

Topics covered:
  • Overview of the recent DOJ Memorandum regarding marijuana in Indian Country and tribal compliance with the eight enforcement priorities outlines in the DOJ Cole Memorandum.
  • Examination of potential market challenges, opportunities, and considerations for tribal entry, including key industry, market, and geographic factors.
  • Evaluation of federal and state political risks that could affect your tribe.
