Red Hop Lager

The red leaves of autumn signal the appearance of a red beer this month. Our Red Hop Lager is a red-orange beer with assertive hop aroma and flavor and a clean, smooth lager backbone.

It begins with o
range and grapefruit citrus notes; the taste is viny and smooth. Lots of citra and simcoe hops give this a distinctive lager taste without the aggressive bitterness of an IPA.

Look for it beginning Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Style: Red Lager

OG: 1059; alc: 5.8%;
IBU: 29; Color, 7.7.

Oktoberfest Set Sept. 27

Food, fun, brew all day at Worth Co. Fairgrounds

Unpack your dirndls and leiderhosen for the biggest bash of the brewing year. TUNE's Oktoberfest begins at noon and runs to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Worth County Fairgrounds, Northwood.

Beer
Once again the featured attraction will be the Worth Brewing Company Oktoberfest beer brewed right in Northwood. We'll also serve our Bavarian smoked doppelbock and maybe another specialty. Imported wheat beer from Germany will be on tap. Bring your authentic German liters/.5 liters or buy your commemorative styrene mug for $3.

Food

As always, locally made bratwurst and red cabbage will top the menu. There will also be barbecue grilled on-site for enjoyment later in the day.

Music
Big Ben and the Brians Concertina Band will take the stage from 3 to 7, adding that little OOMPAH to the proceedings. Arecibo Shogun will play from 7 until 11 p.m.

Fun and Games
TUNE's Northwood Oktoberfest is family friendly, with free inflatables for the kids from noon to 5 p.m. A bean bag tournament begins with signup at 2:30. The tournament begins at 3. To register or for more information, contact Annika Athey at 760-699-1141 or [email protected]

TUNE, Total United Northwood Effort, is a non-profit foundation with the goal of making Northwood a better place
 to live.

Northwood Founders Day receives Real Ale Relief

A real ale cask of Oatmeal Stout will be tapped on Saturday, Sept. 13 in honor of Northwood Founder's Day. All the proceeds from the keg will go to the Founder's Day committee as recipients of WBC's Real Ale Relief program.

Central Avenue in Northwood will be hopping with one of the biggest car shows in the region, Norwegian goodies and other food, inflatables, flea market and more than 30 vendors.

The activity begins with an omelet breakfast at the fire station from 7 until 10 a.m. Street activities run until late afternoon.

A "pre-dedication" of the restored Stromstein Building will take place at mid day.

The Real Ale Relief program aids non-profits in north Iowa and southern Minnesota. Several times a year all proceeds from one cask of "Real Ale" is donated to a local non-profit. Recipients are encouraged to tap the keg in the Northwood Tap Room and distribute information about their projects.

Real Ale, or cask conditioned ale, is a traditional English beer with natural carbonation served direct by gravity from the cask at the bar.

"We're blessed to have received such good support from our customers over the past seven years and are fortunate to be able to give back to the community," said co-owner Margaret Bishop.
