Honoring our Revolutionary War Patriot's grave sites is one of the highest honors that we can bestow upon them. Join us as we honor Patriots Major Daniel Bryson and James Holmes Bryson. Hosted by the Silas McDowell Chapter of the NCSSAR and Blue Ridge Mountain Chapter of the GASSAR.
The marking's ceremony is a pretty solemn event. We have SAR ( Sons of the American Revolution) representatives coming in Militia and Continental Army uniforms. We have DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) participants coming in period costumes. There will be a color guard. There will be a musket firing and salute by the militia. There will be a bagpiper, there will be Taps played by the militia from Post 108. There will be a dozen silk wreaths presented at the gravesite by various SAR and DAR chapters. There will be a representative of each chapter coming forward to salute or curtsy to pay respects to each grave. There will be a soldier's cross set up between the graves where family members can come to pay respects to the graves. We will have descendants of James Holmes Bryson and Daniel Bryson to come forward to give their names and list their family lineage. We will have a State Senator who will have some comments. Poems will be given that have been written by SAR members for the occasion about this hallowed ground. People will be coming in from North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia representing SAR and DAR units. It is a history lesson representing our heritage and our patriot ancestors.
