Godoy to give motivational speech during Aug. 13 Downtown Tinley meeting

Join local business owners, Village of Tinley Park staff and MainStreet Commission members for a free lunch during the next Downtown Tinley meeting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13 at V.F.W. Post 2791, 17147 S. Oak Park Ave., Tinley Park. In a Downtown Tinley first, motivational speaker John Godoy (pictured at right), a renown coach, athlete, inventor and entrepreneur, will present "The Bushido Code: The Seven Virtues of the Samurai." Godoy draws from his Japanese heritage and experiences as a martial artist, endurance athlete and coach to take listeners on a journey through the code of the samurai. He'll teach attendees to develop a code for their own lives - a code that will guide them through the inevitable challenges of the changing era. Please RSVP to Sue Pall at (708) 444-5049 or [email protected].

Teal ribbons to honor National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

The Tie a Teal Ribbon Foundation will be tying teal ribbons along Oak Park Avenue throughout September in honor of National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Ovarian cancer often is a difficult cancer to treat because there is no early detection test for the disease. Women should consult with their physician if they have any symptoms which persist for two weeks or longer. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, indigestion, unusual fatigue, bloating or feeling full quickly while eating. Ribbons also will be displayed in other communities including Oak Forest, Palos Heights and Orland Park. For more information, email [email protected].
