Search Committee Update

The Search Committee had a busy summer! We considered about 40 potential candidates and narrowed the list down, first to a handful of candidates that the whole Committee spoke with by telephone and then three finalists.

Now, the committee is spending intense weekends with each of the three final candidates. These weekends include a day-long conversation about Neighborhood's aspirations and the candidate's approaches to ministry, plenty of time for us to get to know the candidate personally, and an opportunity to observe the candidate lead a service at a nearby church. When we have finished the last of these weekend visits, we will consider which of the three finalists to present to the Congregation as our proposed new Senior Minister.

We are very impressed with each of the three finalists. They are very different from one another, but we are confident that any one of them would be an exciting and excellent Senior Minister for Neighborhood. As we close in on a final decision the committee is more aware than ever of the trust the Congregation has placed in us for making such an important choice for Neighborhood's future, and we are dedicated to making the best choice we can for Neighborhood.

We look forward to introducing a candidate to you soon. The timing will depend on both our deliberations and the final candidate's schedule, but we hope to make an announcement before the end of next month. At that time, we will be able to schedule a "Candidating Week" for the entire congregation to get to know the candidate and to vote on whether to call the candidate as our next Senior Minister.

Green Council Presentation

September 21, 10:30 a.m.

Four years ago, Presenter Peter Kalmus burned enough fossil fuel each year to emit 20 tons of CO2, close to the national average.  Today, he emits under two tons a year.  He said he has had to make some sacrifices, but said "My life is actually more satisfying than ever."  He will discuss how, with a little creativity, we can leave our children a more livable Earth.  Peter Kalmus spent eight years as an astrophysicist before switching to climate science two years ago. Contact Susette Horspool for more information.
