Cover to Cover Author Series - FEBRUARY

Our February Author Series will feature Sarah Chayes, Senior Associate in the Democracy and Rule of Law Program and the South Asia Program at the Carnegie Endowment, on her forthcoming book, Thieves of State: Why Corruption Threatens Global Security. Every day a new blaze seems to ignite: the bloody implosion of Iraq and Syria; the East-West standoff in Ukraine; abducted schoolgirls in northern Nigeria. "Thieves of State is a revolutionary book."
-Anne-Marie Slaughter, President of the New America Foundation

South Dakota WAC Food & Water Security Symposium
Hunger remains a serious global problem. More than 800 million people suffer daily from the effects of severe under-nutrition. Why have some nations succeeded in feeding most of their people while others have not? How can we plan for and ensure safe, secure and sustainable access to food and water around the world? The South Dakota World Affairs Council hosts its Food & Water Security Symposium January 29-30 at South Dakota State University.

Professor and developing country agricultural consultant George Norton kicks off the annual topical symposium with a lecture on "Food & Water Security in the Developing World." Norton combines a wealth of experience and understanding of how agriculture can address the challenges of rural world poverty. Panels of regional experts and practitioners will offer their views and experiences.
