Polished Marble, Cake Mud: A Stay In Baghdad
Thursday, June 5 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
From August 2013 to April 2014, under the auspices of the Office of the Prime Minister of Iraq and funded by the U.S. Department of State, Cynthia Warren helped found an English
Language Center to serve Iraqi scholarship students headed to Anglophone countries for graduate degrees, and to train Iraqi teachers. After almost 2 months in the 5-star Al-Rasheed Hotel in the Green Zone, she moved to the school premises, where she lived in a garage apartment near a dried-up arm of the Tigris she fondly named "the ditch." She will tell the story of how she found her own wistful little Garden of Eden in perhaps the most fortified 4 square miles on earth. Talk will be accompanied by visuals and followed by a question and answer session. Contact: Madhu Gupta 860-447-1411 x 3 [email protected]
