Back to School Hoopla
Back to School Hoopla
Saturday 30 August
Takes place in Athlone Castle between 1-2pm. The Celtic Blondes, known nationally as a 'traditional Irish dance duo with a modern twist' will join with 'acting-the-messer-maestro' storyteller Paul Timoney for a mesmerising, fun-filled afternoon.
Price of tickets is €5 per child. This entitles them to watch the Hoopla and grants admission into the visitor centre. Adults are free to watch the Hoopla but must pay to enter the visitor centre. Places are limited and pre booking is advised on 0906442130s.
Roscommon Races September Fixtures
The September Roscommon Race meetings for 2014 take place on Monday 1
and Monday 29 September at Roscommon Racecourse.

An evening of fun at Kilbeggan Races is one of the most enjoyable experiences. It mingles the heart stopping spectacle of racing over jumps with the laid back charm of a genuine rural meeting. The Kilbeggan formula is made for fun, friendship and atmosphere for the thousands who return meeting after meeting giving Kilbeggan the edge over other events.
Jeremiah Sheehan Memorial Lecture
Monday September 8 at 8.15pm  in The Grand Hotel, Moate
Moate Museum and Historical Society will host the Jeremiah Sheehan Memorial Lecture entitled   'Aspects of the Civil War in the midlands' it will be presented by Mr Ian Kenneally. Admission free, all are welcome.
Athlone Film Club
Tuesday 9 September
Athlone Film Club will kick off its 2014/2015 season on Tuesday 9th September at 8pm in the Dean Crowe Theatre. Our first film is a documentary the Irish pub which features Athlone's own
Gertie Browne's.
Join us for a complimentary glass of wine from 7.30 pm.

Membership is €10 to include your first film. Each subsequent film is €8.
The second film in our season is The Lunchbox on Tuesday 23 September at 8pm.
Again there will be complimentary wine from 7.30pm

The Flatline - Athlone Half Marathon 
Saturday 13 September
The 3rd Flatline Athlone half marathon takes place on Saturday 13th September. The AAI certified route remains the same as previous years, starting at St. Aloysius college and will take you along the banks of the river Shannon out to Clonown before you turn and return in the Ballinasloe road back to Athlone

Rashina Vintage Club's Threshing & Working Field Day
Sunday 14 September in Doon, Co. Offaly
From 12 noon to 6pm.
It will include a traditional binder cutting corn on the day with numerous threshing mills. There will also be a large vintage display, local crafts, food stalls, working blacksmith, tractor pulling, tractor balancing, a dog show and lots of attractions for all ages!
Athlone Arts Group - Art Exhibition
Exhibition in the Library for Culture night the 19th of September
for one week to 27th of September. All are welcome. Admission free.
