It Takes a Village

Sea Chea is a 38 year old widow and primary caregiver for her five children.  She works very hard in construction jobs to support her family on a meager income. Children's Future has supported Sea Chea's family for several years, ensuring that her five children are safe, healthy and in school.  And they are now thriving!

Sadly, Sea Chea was recently diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. Children's Future was able to form a partnership allowing Sea Chea to receive life saving surgery from a team of visiting U.S. doctors. Funds for equipment and room rental costs were provided by European donors.

It is one month after the surgery and Sea Chea is recovering very well.  Her shortness of breath is improving, her heart murmur is gone, and an ultrasound showed that her heart function is nearly back to normal.  This surgery was a success for Sea Chea and now she will continue to be able to provide for her children while they receive their education.

We are grateful to everyone who came together to make this happen!

Student Profile - Banha

Banha, a 13 year old Children's Future student and soccer player.

"When I met Children's Future, I wasn't in school and didn't play sports. Now, I'm studying at a private school in Phnom Penh and I'm playing on the junior national soccer team!"

Banha, now 13 years old was one of Children's Future's first students. He came to the Learning Center without shoes and with little confidence.  Banha started playing soccer on the Children's Future boy's soccer team.  This was his first time playing organized sports, but he quickly became one of the best players on the team.

Last year, Banha was invited to move to Phnom Penh to train full-time on the Phnom Penh Crown's U14 soccer team, an internationally competitive soccer team.  He received a full scholarship to attend private school so he could practice soccer with the team.  He has only played with the Crown's for one year, but he is already traveling internationally to compete!
