Podologists from Spain Study at NYCPM

Six podologists from Spain attended a challenging week-long course at NYCPM on anatomical dissection and surgical skills, taught in the College's state-of-the-art Bako Anatomy Lab. NYCPM 's Michael J. Trepal, DPM, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean, directs this semi-annual program of visiting students from Spain on behalf of the College; the program is now in its 23rd year. Professors Ricardo Becerro de Bengoa Vallejo, DPM, PhD, a graduate of NYCPM, and Marta Losa Iglesias, PhD, work closely with Dr. Trepal to direct the program.  Both course directors accompanied the students on their visit. ... Canadian Students Complete Clinical Rotation at FCNY

Six Canadian senior podiatric medical students from the Universit� du Qu�bec � Trois-Rivi�res recently completed a four-month clinical rotation at NYCPM's clinical affiliate, the Foot Center of New York, as well as at Metropolitan Hospital, which is affiliated with NYCPM. Glimpse of NYCPM's Past
      

A July telephone call to Thomas Walker, NYCPM's Director of Library Services, has unexpectedly opened a window onto a world with a historic link to the College.

          The long-empty brownstone in West Harlem in which Dr. Bertha Williams, a podiatrist, had lived and worked had recently been purchased. The buyer knew there was a connection to NYCPM from an article in the New York Age, and was willing to let Mr. Walker visit to see if there were any books or furnishings that might be of interest. ... Publications and Presentations


 

A paper by Zev Leifer, PhD, The Use of Virtual Microscopy and a Wiki in Pathology Education: Tracking Student Use, Involvement and Response, has been accepted for an Oral Presentation at the Education and Telepathology session of the IADP (International Association for Digital Pathology) 2nd International Congress, on November 6 in Boston, MA. The abstract will be published in the Journal of Analytical Cellular Pathology.


In addition, Dr. Leifer's abstract, The Use of 3D Printing as an Adjunct to Digital Pathology in Slide Analysis, has been selected for poster presentation at the upcoming Pathology Visions meeting of the Digital Pathology Association, to be held October 20 - 21 in San Francisco, CA.

Sharon I. Monter, DPM ('98), Installed as President of NJPMS

Sharon I. Monter, DPM ('98), has been installed as the 95th president of the New Jersey Podiatric Medical Society, the third woman to serve in that position. She had held a number of positions on the NJPMS Executive Board of Directors prior to her election. She practices in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ.

 

Steven Goldman, DPM ('82), Elected to Board of ABPM

Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine Steven Goldman, DPM ('82), has been elected to the 2014-15 Board of Directors of The American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM) at its annual meeting in Hawaii. 


Jose Loor, DPM ('09), Promoted to Captain in U.S. Army Reserves

At a ceremony aboard the USS Intrepid on August 10, Jose Loor, DPM ('09), a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves, Medical Services Corps, was promoted to the rank of captain. He works at the 4220th US Army Hospital in Shoreham, Long Island, as a doctor of podiatric medicine and surgeon. He is currently pursuing an executive MBA at Adelphi University. FCNY Helps Officers Stand Tall

On August 7, Eunice Ramsey-Parker, DPM, FCNY Clinic Administrator, made two presentations to officers of the 25th Precinct in Harlem about foot health and remaining pain-free while on the beat. She discussed common foot problems such as 

  

bunions, hammertoes, athlete's foot, flat feet and arch pain; she stressed to her audiences how the right fit of their shoes is critically important. NYCPM and FCNY thank Captain Thomas Harnisch, Commander of the 25th Precinct, for hosting Dr. Parker, and Sergeant Brown and Officer Ramos for setting up the presentation.
