Happy Father's Day!

Sermon:  Rev. LeeAnn Inman
The Amazing Faith Race: "Best Coach Ever"

Scripture: Hebrews 5:1-10

Now is the time for us to pass peace beyond our walls. God is calling us to share the peace of Christ with our neighbors and fellow citizens here in Orlando in tangible ways. The first thing we can do is pray for the grieving families and friends, healing for the injured ones, endurance for the medical teams, courage for the first-responders, wisdom for our community leaders, and hope for all.  Then we can, by the grace of God, activate our prayers by connecting with those who are organizing efforts to make God's love and peace real. Check the resources and organizations listed below for some ways we can help. Find a new way to pass on the peace of Christ. As we approach the 25th Anniversary of Peace United Methodist Church, let's live up to the name our founders were inspired to give us:  PEACE.

EVERYONE
WEAR BRIGHT COLORS TO WORSHIP ON SUNDAY:

We had already announced a silly challenge for men to wear their loudest, most colorful, eye-popping, attention-grabbing shirts (in honor or Father's Day), and earlier in the week we struggled with whether that would still be appropriate given the events of last weekend.  But forcing us to cower and change is exactly the goal of terror, so we have decided to celebrate life this Sunday by wearing our brightest colors (guys with those super-loud shirts -- you know the ones -- and women with bright, cheerful colors in general).

¨ Donate Snacks and Drinks: We are collecting Gator-aid (or other sport drinks) and granola bars at Peace. Drop off your donations off on the table in the back of the sanctuary or Church Office. These will be distributed to blood donation locations around the city.

¨ Donate Blood: We have a regularly scheduled Blood Drive here at Peace Church on Sunday, June 26th from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  If you are unable to give on this day, please find a donation center or Big Red Bus near you by visiting www.oneblood.org or call 1.888.9Donate.

¨ "Peace for Orlando" Bracelets: Starting Sunday, we will be selling special bracelets (only $5.00 each) to raise funds for the victims of this tragedy.  All proceeds will be donated to www.OneOrlando.org  supporting a non-profit called Strengthen Orlando, Inc. You may also purchase these bracelets online via the website http://fundly.com/peace-for-orlando-2

Women's Summer Study - "Lavender Springs" - June 17

It's not too late to participate!  Come join us Friday at 7:00 p.m. Rest, Relax, Be Refreshed.

This summer join us for a relaxing and spiritually nourishing spa-themed study where you'll be reminded of God's faithfulness and the power of connecting with other women. Through three refreshing sessions, we will journey through the psalms of the Bible, studying the different kinds of songs, poems, and psalms that have inspired people for centuries.  Learn how the psalms help us share our feelings, disappointments, celebrations, and doubts with a truly great listener: God.

You'll leave with a fresh approach to prayer and stronger faith!  Mark your calendars now for these three special Friday nights - June 17th, July 15th and August 19th at 7:00 p.m.  Come to one or come to all!
Bring Your Dad to Church on Father's Day - June 19

We are celebrating Father's Day on Sunday, June 19th with "Bring Your Dad to Church Day."   Bring pops for a great morning of worship and special recognition.  We'll be continuing our Amazing Faith Worship series with a featured theme of "Best Coach Ever!" and we encouraging ALL MEN to be recognized by wearing their LOUDEST and PROUDEST shirt!  This is an actual contest with a prize to the most vibrant, celebratory (dare we say exuberantly obnoxious) shirt.  A winner at every service and a winning morning for us all, celebrating the men in our lives.

To celebrate life and show unity in the face of those who would terrorize us--we are also now calling on the women of Peace to wear bright colors to church this Sunday too!
Vacation Bible School - June 20-24

Join us June 20 - 24 - from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. each night for Vacation Bible School! Ground kids in the rock-solid foundation of God's love, a love that takes us through life's dark times
Peace Blood Drive - June 26

Our next Blood Drive will be on Sunday, June 26th from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  In the wake of the Orlando mass shootings, OneBlood, the local blood center is urging people to continue to donating during the coming weeks. If you are unable to give during our Peace blood drive, they recommend you call 1-888-9-Donate or visit www.OneBlood.org to make an advanced appointment at a local OneBlood center.

Bahamas Bound Again! - July 24-31

As a continuation of our partnership with St. Michael's in Nassau, Bahamas, Peace will be embarking on its first "Family Mission Trip." Some of our Peace  families have accepted Pastor Stubbs' invitation to assist St. Michael's with one week of their VBS this summer.  We will be taking our "Cave Quest" VBS to the Caribbean to share with approximately 60 children who live in the community encircling our sister church, St. Michael's.  Please be in prayer for the following participants that they may travel safely and that God will bless their efforts: Rich and Cameron Meek; Vivian, Sofia and Emma Delgado; Joanna, Callen and Mason Sell; Brian, Heidi, Eric, Dylan and Brandon Hoopingarner.  We are excited to partner with the congregation of St. Michael's and truly believe the words of Pastor Stubbs, who said "Ministry is the concept that frames our relationship." How can you help?
  • We need 13 designated prayer partners (one for each missionary) who will dedicate daily prayer time for their partner.  Please contact Vivian Delgado at [email protected] or 407-325-9374 if you're interested in volunteering for this commitment.
  • We need prayer for the trip.  You don't have to be a designated prayer partner to pray for us.  We need all prayer!  God will combine them ALL and use it to his glory!  Pray once.  Pray often.  Just please Pray!
  • Watch for our specific supply list, coming soon.
If you can assist with any of the above, please contact Jana in the Church Office or Heidi Hoopingarner at [email protected]  or 407-857-0199.
Go Deeper Into Hebrews as Part of Our Amazing Faith Race

As we spend the summer taking an in-depth look at the New Testament book of Hebrews, you have several opportunities to get the most out of sermons and to stay connected even as you travel by going deeper into the scripture from a variety of angles.  If you haven't already, you can sign up to be a part of our Amazing Faith Race daily devotions.  These daily meditations on select verses from Hebrews are written by Peace members and offer unique personal observations and insights from a wide variety of people.  Additionally, on Fridays, you can receive the weekly worship blog, written by the preacher for that week and offering a preview of the sermon topic.  The daily devotions and the worship blog are available by email, as well as on our Facebook page and Twitter feed.  You can get on the email distribution list by contacting the church office via email
[email protected] or 407-438-8947 (and you can always contact the church office if you have questions about access to our social media).

Also, Rev. John Painter recommends reading and studying with N.T. Wright's Hebrews for Everyone Bible Study.  A limited number of these paperbacks are on the back table in the worship space and available for a suggested donation of $9.00.   Wright is a former Bishop in the Church of England, well known for his thoughtful scholarship presented in a very readable form.  The Tuesday morning breakfast small group will be studying this book soon.  See John Painter or Eddie Pipkin if you'd like info.
New Nursing Home Worship Ministry

We have started a new Nursing Home Ministry! On the first Sunday of each month, folks from Peace will lead a simple worship service at Hunter's Creek Nursing Home. Pastor LeeAnn and several of our retired clergy will rotate leading the service. Peace member Andrea Titmus, who has been volunteering at the center for some time, will assist along with other interested members. If you would like to participate in this new outreach ministry, please contact Pastor LeeAnn.
