Pastoral Emergencies

In case you, a family member, or another parishioner are hospitalized, or have another pastoral emergency, please contact the Parish Office at 973.623.1733 and speak with Elaine Davis or leave a message on the main voicemail box.
Electronic Giving
Just as you rely upon receiving income on a regular basis, Grace Church relies on your regular contributions. We appreciate the efforts of parishioners to make consistent donations throughout the year-especially during the summer. To assist you, the church provides a convenient electronic giving option for setting up regular contributions. Go to Online Giving  to set up or adjust your plan. Mobile Giving is accessed by scanning the image you see below with your phone's QR code reader. Additional information is available from Jim Cramer.

Flowers
The flowers for the remainder of June and part of July have been replaced by green plants given by Father Bowen and selected with the assistance of Father Prator.

Coffee Hour
Coffee Hour sponsors are needed for the coming weeks. Please sign up on the column near the piano in the Parish Hall, if you are able to help with this important ministry of hospitality. Coffee Hour can be as simple or as elaborate as desired. Instructions for making coffee and iced tea are posted on a closet door in the Parish Hall.

Week beginning Sunday, June 19, 2016

This is the last Grace eNotes for the Summer! The Grace eNotes will return in September.

This Sunday, June 19, is the Fifth Sunday after Pentecost. We hope you will join us for Said Mass at 8:00 a.m. or High Mass at 10:30 a.m.  The High Mass leaflet, including Sunday's readings, is available on our website.
Father Bates on Sabbatical
Father Bates is on sabbatical from June 19 through August 28, a month of which he will be making a pilgrimage to holy places in England and Scotland. Thank you to the Wardens, Vestry, and parish for supporting the sabbatical, and Father Bowen, Mother Lindstrom, and Father Prator for celebrating mass while he is away. In the event of an emergency, please call the Church's main number (973.623.1733) and speak with Elaine Davis or leave a message at the main number.
Concerts at Grace
This Saturday, June 18 is the final concert of the 2015-2016 season. Our ensemble-in-residence, Alkemie, will present Cyprus 1400, when they voyage to this island crossroads of French, Greek, Armenian, Italian, and Ottoman influences. Their program explores the complex ars subtilior melodies of the Torino manuscript J.ii.9, rousing folk tunes from the area, and sinuous polyphony from France. Featuring Sian Ricketts (soprano & recorders), Elena Mullins (soprano & percussion),  Tracy Cowart (mezzo-soprano & percussion), David McCormick (vielle), and Niccolo  Seligmann (vielle & percussion).

Visit our music page for information about tickets

He will also be away with the Choristers at the RSCM Training Course in Newport, RI from August 1-7, including during High Mass on August 7.

Mowing Volunteer Needed
Credit: David Kirby
One more volunteer is needed for mowing regularly during the first week of the month. The parish has a lawn mower that is accessible on Weekdays and Saturdays 10:00-Noon and Sundays 9:00-10:00 a.m. Contact Father Bates ASAP to volunteer.
Safety at Grace Church
While there is no need for alarm, this past Sunday we had a good reminder about the importance of safety at Grace Church in Newark when two items were stolen from the parlor in the Parish House. After further investigation, it was discovered that the North Porch door had been left un-bolted and the door to the Parish House had been left unlocked, so it was likely that someone wandered in through unlocked doors when the room was not being monitored.
  • Please keep your personal valuable belongings secured.
  • Please make every effort to ensure the doors of the Church and Parish House are kept locked.
  • When letting people in through the Parish House door, either make sure you know the person, or escort them to the Church for Mass or Parish Hall for Coffee Hour. Please use this as an opportunity to welcome visitors.
  • Children and Youth of the parish should be instructed to never open a door for anyone except their family members. This is for the safety of everyone, especially our children.
If there are any concerns, please bring them to the clergy or wardens.
Summer Cantor Sponsorship
Sponsors are needed for summer cantors. Please sign up on the bulletin board in the Parish House hallway. Each Sunday's sponsorship is $115.
Volunteers needed for Choir Room Cleanup
Volunteers are needed to help clean the choir room and return the music library to order. It will mostly involve helping the Director of Music to sort choral music. Contact Jim Hopkins  if you're willing to help!
