Green, Gold, and Diamond Service Awards
York Catholic students are required to perform service hours each year.  Senior high students are required to document sixteen hours a year, and junior high students are required to document twelve hours a year.  Service to others is a component of a York Catholic education, and it is our hope that as our students mature, service becomes more than just a requirement.   It is our hope that our graduates continue to give back to the community and that service becomes a lifelong commitment.  We would like to acknowledge students who went above and beyond this year, giving more than was asked.   These students gave generously of their time and talent in various locations and assisted at different events.  A sampling of venues would include local food pantries, parish ministries, parish carnivals and festivals, Pleasant Acres Nursing Home, Country Meadows Retirement Community, Mack Madness, Martin Library, Habitat for Humanity, Helping Hands of York, The American Cancer Society, and Leg Up Farms.   Many spent countless hours working YC Bingo.  We would like to recognize the following students for service above and beyond the required hours throughout the 2015-16 school year:

Senior Pictures - Class of 2017
Each year YC enters into a contract with a professional photographer for the senior pictures appearing in our yearbook, Rosa Mystica.  This year, our photographers will be from Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch .  Pictures from any other photographer cannot be accepted for the yearbook.  Every senior must get their picture taken, however, seniors are under no obligation to purchase the photo.  If desired, students can purchase yearbook photo packages from Lifetouch .  Lifetouch contributes a portion of package purchases back to York Catholic.

Photos will be taken in the YC library beginning June 20.  This week, Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch mailed postcards to the Class of 2017 listing personalized appointment times.  Please arrive prior to your scheduled appointment so you are ready for your assigned time.  If you did not receive a postcard, please call Lifetouch at 1-800-445-1189.

Please observe the following guidelines regarding appearance for photos.  All gentlemen must be clean shaven and wear a dress shirt, tie, and sport coat or suit jacket. Hair must be regulation length.  No piercings are allowed. Ladies will be provided with a black shoulder drape for photos. Only necklaces and earrings are allowed for the yearbook picture of the young women.  Please remove any facial jewelry.

If you have any questions, please contact Lifetouch at 1-800-445-1189.
Plan to Play Sports Next School Year?
Athletic Physicals
All Fall athletes must have a physical dated between June 1, 2016 and August 5, 2016 to be eligible to participate in Fall sports.  Physicals given prior to June 1, 2016 are NOT recognized by the PIAA.

Athletic Physicals for all sports for the 2016-2017 school year will be held TONIGHTThursday, June 16, from 6-8 PM at OSS Health at 1855 Powder Mill Road.  Students must bring their completed 7-page PIAA Comprehensive Initial Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation form (CIPPE) that can be printed here or accessed on the homepage of the YC website at www.yorkcatholic.org  (the correct forms will be dated March 17, 2016 at the bottom of page 1).  The forms must be signed by a parent.  Cost for the physical is $15.  Checks should be made payable to York Catholic.  OSS requests student-athletes DO NOT enter the building prior to 5:45 PM.

If you go to your own doctor, you must use the PIAA Sports Physical Form (CIPPE) referenced above.  No other form is acceptable.

Please note:  OSS is conducting sports physicals ONLY.  OSS staff will not be performing driver's license physicals or 11th grade physicals.  All students entering Grade 11 are required by the State of Pennsylvania to have a complete physical prior to the start of the school year.  Grade 11 athletes must schedule an appointment with their personal physician between June 1, 2016 and August 5, 2016.  Be sure to take both physical forms to the appointment (sports physical form & Grade 11 physical form).

ImPACT Testing
There has been extensive media coverage about athletics and concussions.  York Catholic has been at the forefront in this area and includes the ImPACT Test (Immediate Post-Concussive Assessment and Cognitive Testing) to monitor our athletes.

All interscholastic athletes, cheerleaders, and members of the marching band and bandfront are required to take an ImPACT Test to establish a cognitive baseline for concussions. This is an established technology used in order to determine the return to play/activity guidelines for participants who have sustained a concussion.

The test is administered on a computer.  The baseline is adequate for two years. Therefore, if a student participated on a YC team last season and had an ImPACT test, he or she is not required to repeat it this season.

It is the athlete's responsibility to email Mr. Rick Luckman at  [email protected]  to see if a valid ImPACT Test is on file at YC.  If an ImPACT test needs to be taken or re-taken, contact Mr. Luckman for instructions.  Once completed, the student must check with Mr. Luckman to see if the updated ImPACT Test was transmitted properly and is on file.

ImPACT Tests must be completed and Sports Physical Forms must be given to Mr. Luckman by August 5 at 3 PM to be permitted to start Fall practice.

For more information, contact Rick Luckman at [email protected] , Brad Hayek at [email protected] , or Kyle Smink at [email protected] .
