Market Updates
Wondering why your strawberry jam won't jell? Curious if your tomato sauce will give you botulism? Perfect timing! The Multnomah County Master Preservers will be at market this Saturday, ready to answer all of your food preservation-related questions! The Master Preservers booth will be located in the middle of Hancock Street, near the 45th Avenue end of the market.

It's the perfect time for a visit from the Master Preservers, because market this week will be full of great fruits to preserve! Cherries, apricots, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and even peaches and maybe plums will be making an appearance. We'll be joined by on-call vendors House Spirits, Portland Regular Bread, Rossi Farms, and Seed & Thistle Apothecary. Ole World Oils is taking the week off, but will be back next Saturday. Dancing Light Ranch will be bringing the first of the season's fresh lavender, as well as raspberry, thornless blackberry, and marionberry plants. Columbia River Salmon will also be back at market, with beautiful salmon, smoked salmon, and a small quantity of salmon roe!

Hollywood Farmers Market has been nominated in Willamette Week's Best of Portland 2015! Thanks to everyone who nominated us, it feels good to be in the company of four other awesome farmers markets. If you want to see HFM take the gold, you can vote for us here, under "Best Farmers Market" in the Local Business category.

Our annual Kids' Day  celebration was a big hit this past Saturday! Over 100 kids completed our Hollywood Farmers Market scavenger hunt, each receiving a prize of $2 in farmers market tokens! The next event on our kids calendar will be "What part of the plant am I eating?", on Saturday, July 11th.

See you at the market!

Featured Products
Saturday, June 20th

Rainier Cherries
Maryhill Orchards
Rainiers are one of our classic Northwest cherry varieties. Originating from Washington State University in 1952, they still are rarely (if ever) grown outside the Pacific NW. With a super sweet flavor, they have the added benefit that they don't stain your hands like other cherries!  Maryhill Orchards should have them for the next month or two.

Harukei Turnips
Winter Green Farm
If you've never tried a raw turnip, this is a great time and place to have your first taste! These turnips are great raw, with a sweet and mild flavor, not spicy and bitter like the standard purple-topped turnips. They can also be cooked lightly in stir-fries and soups, and even make great pickles! The greens are also very much edible, just wash, chop and steam or stir fry. Like everything Winter Green Farm grows, they are biodynamic and certified organic.

Potato Donuts
Fleur de Lis Bakery
Golden brown, covered with cinnamon and sugar and hand delivered at 8 am, these tasty treats don't last long in the market. With more of a cake like texture and less sugar than a typical donut, the potato donuts definitely stand out.

Mixed Berry Flats
Liepold Farms
The ever popular "pick your six" originated here!  Liepold Farms has been a vendor since the beginning of HFM and they started encouraging shoppers to pick their six shortly after.  It is so popular that many other vendors now offer the same.  This Saturday, they'll have Puget Crimson strawberries, Obsidian blackberries, and Cascade Crimson raspberries. Come early for the best choice!
