Market Updates

Welcome to summer season! We're welcoming some new vendors and of course saying hello to many old friends. We have 2 new full-time vendors joining us this season: Lionheart Kombucha and Sterling CookiesWe also have a few new on call vendors this season. In the market this week are: Kelly's Jelly (pepper jellies), Mariam's (lentil dips and spreads). Stop by to say hello and welcome them to HFM.

This Saturday we'll be giving away a free plant start from one of our vendors to the first 200 customers! We'll be giving these away, while supplies last, from a booth on the north side of Hancock St. (near the seating area) after 8am.

This Saturday will also see the return of live music at the market with string band New Five Cents, and the return of Crista the face painter! Live music will continue every Saturday until Thanksgiving, and Crista will be here twice a month through October.

Continuing the festivities, we'll have cooking demos going on throughout the day starting at 10:30. First, Skylor Powell of Sprout Health will be making pesto and hazelnut snacks. Then at 11:30, Ahn Luu from Tapalaya will be making a Vietnamese-style pork noodle salad.

The Portland-Area CSA Coalition will be one of our community booths this Saturday; stop by their booth to learn about CSA (community-supported agriculture) and to sign up for a drawing for a free box of produce from Winter Green Farm! The Master Gardeners will also be here this Saturday (and every Saturday through May 24th) to answer all your gardening questions.

See you at the market!
Kids' Cooking Demos begin May 17th!
This season we're continuing our kids' programs with a series of kids' cooking demos! Joanna Sooper from Turnip the Heat cooking school will be at the market once a month starting in May. Each month she'll be leading our "market sprouts" (all our young customers, that is) in cooking demos featuring a particular vegetable or fruit. All demos are free, of course. Demos will run from 9:30 am to noon. The schedule for the 2014 Kids Cooking Demos:

May 17: Salad Greens
June 21: Strawberries
July 12: Peas and Carrots
August 9: Peaches
September 13: Tomatoes
