The Gibbes Museum of Art is accepting applications for the 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art through May 28, 2014. Sponsored by our young patrons auxiliary group Society 1858, the prize will be awarded annually to acknowledge an artist whose work demonstrates the highest level of artistic achievement in any media, while contributing to a new understanding of art in the South.

Painter John Westmark was the 2012 prize winner and his work is currently on view at the Gibbes Museum in the exhibition entitled, John Westmark: Narratives. To learn about the impact of the prize on past winners, read our blog.
