EMGIP � Bundestag Internship

This program offers two months at the German parliament for students who are fluent in German and possess outstanding academic records and personal integrity as well as sufficient knowledge of the German legislative process. Applicants must be advanced undergraduates or graduate students in fields such as political science, international relations, law, history, economics or German.

Study Europe and the European Union from the unique vantage point of one of Germany�s most prestigious universities! Our Semester Program offers you a short-term study abroad experience and provides the possibility of obtaining course credit.

The Semester Program is open to undergraduate students and adult learners from all countries and of all majors and professions and will provide you with:

� a broad insight into European politics, business, history, law, and culture (seminars are conducted entirely in English, no previous knowledge of German required)
� excursions to important centers of European decision-making: Brussels, Berlin, Strasbourg, Frankfurt and to relevant companies in the Baden-W�rttemberg area
� a German language course
� a �Buddy�-program: International students will have the chance to team up with a German student who will serve as �Buddy� throughout the program
� an intercultural workshop which focusses on the development of intercultural competence with a particular focus on German culture
� up to 24 course credits

The application deadline is 15 July 2014. The program fee of EUR 4,600 comprises all academic courses and excursions, accommodation, a public transportation ticket for use within T�bingen and social activities.

International Georg Arnhold Visiting Research Professorship Program

This Visiting Research Professorship aims at promoting research into education for sustainable peace with particular focus on educational media. The appointment is for three to six months per year and offers distinguished scholars from various disciplines (e.g. from the humanities, political and social sciences, education sciences or law) the opportunity to conduct research projects and/or finish major publications in a stimulating research environment without teaching or administrative obligations. The visiting professor is however expected to participate in a one-week international summer school for young scholars and to develop the concept for an international symposium to be held at the end of the visiting professor�s stay. The organization of both activities will be carried out by the program�s coordinator at the GEI.

Applicants must demonstrate outstanding professional achievement in their fields and should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline. Individuals with extensive high-level international experience in government or non-governmental organizations may also apply. Applicants should demonstrate interest in interdisciplinary studies, commitment to and respect for open dialogue on potentially polarizing issues, and a willingness to engage with a variety of academic and non-academic groups including political stakeholders.
The professorship includes a stipend of up to 6.500 Euro per month (paid as a lump sum to cover all costs for the stay at the GEI and travel within Germany), round trip airfare to Germany, as well as research and administrative assistance.

Advertisement: Summer School in Historical Linguistics of Germanic Languages (SUM-UP)

The First Summer School in Historical Linguistics at the University of Potsdam will focus on theoretical aspects of historical linguistics, and on extinct Germanic languages.
The summer school will last one week and takes place from September 14th to September 20th 2014 in the unique historical setting of the University of Potsdam. It will provide intensive theoretical knowledge in various areas of language change and its modeling, as well as language proficiency in extinct Germanic languages. Five courses will be offered by known experts in the field.
The school is open for international students of Germanic languages at MA or PhD level. The number of participants is limited to 25. All courses will be taught in English. Credit points can be obtained.

Call for Applications: Falling Walls Lab

Falling Walls Lab is an innovative format for highly qualified young researchers with the ambition to break through societal challenges � the Falling Walls Lab on 8 November 2014. With the slogan �Share Your Idea!� the Falling Walls Lab offers hundreds of young scientists, entrepreneurs and innovators from around the world a stage to pitch their research work, initiatives or business models to their peers and a distinguished jury from academia and business � in 3 minutes each.

The three most intriguing presenters will be awarded the title �Falling Walls Young Innovator of the Year�, will receive a cash prize and will get the opportunity to present their idea on the grand stage of the Falling Walls Conference on 9 November 2014. At the Conference, 20 top-class scientists from around the world present their current breakthrough research answering the question �Which are the next walls to fall?� This year, Prof. Suzanne Topalian from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, one of the world�s leading experts in immunotherapy, and the bioengineer Prof. Karl Deisseroth (Stanford University) are amongst the attending speakers.
