Wolfe's Wine Shoppe's Top 10 Wines of 2014
Opened from 1-5PM

Donkey and Goat Sluice Box White 2013- The white Rhne style blend where they let the vintage inspire the final blend. In 2013 50% of the blend was skin fermented, 50% whole cluster pressed. From a varietal perspective, the Marsanne and Vermentino had portions made on the skins, Picpoul and Grenache Blanc were exclusively whole cluster pressed. This is a white wine with a red's backbone that has the stuffing for the fall and winter table $31.50

Raventos i Blanc de Nit 2011-Macabeo (Viura), Xarel-lo and Parellada. All three of these grapes, as well as a small portion of direct press Monastrell, are found in this delicate, beautiful ros bottling.$29.00

Banshee Mordecai 2012 A blend of 33% cabernet sauvignon, 27% syrah, 12% carignan, 5% cabernet franc, 5% grenache, 5% touriga nacional, 4% petit verdot, 3% merlot, 3% zinfandel and 3 % barbera): Deep ruby. Expressive, spice-tinged aromas of cherry, black raspberry, violet and white pepper. Supple, spicy and pliant on the palate, showing good lift and clarity to its dark berry, spicecake and licorice flavors. Finishes with supple tannins, building spiciness and very good persistence $25.50

Poggio Anima Belial 2011-This is 100% Sangiovese sourced from a single Montecucco vineyard. This wine puts the 'super' in SuperTuscan and certainly at this price. Winemaker, Riccardo Campinoti is a firm believer that the wine is made in the vineyard and when he found this one with mature vines (averaging 15 years of age) he knew he had something special. The grapes were hand harvested and the fermentation included 2 weeks of skin contact to extract rich flavors and color. Aging is in neutral barrels so the Sangiovese fruit is the star here. $16.50

Honig Cabernet Sauvingon Napa Valley 2012- Aged for 18 months in 35% new American oak barrels before being blended with 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Plenty of ripe, wild berry and plum aromas and flavors, framed by vanilla, spice, and toasty oak. Lush mid-palate tannins flow into a lengthy finish accented by bright fruit. $44.50

Tenuta San Antonio Scaia Veneto 2012- Corvina, best known as the perennial headliner grape in the wines of Valpolicella, here shines in a solo role and layers its famously black fruit with lush autumnal spices, pink peppercorn, and freshly steeped black tea. Sumptuous and bold but consummately affable and easy to drink, this phenomenal value was farmed by the four Castagnedi brothers in the hills of Valpolicella after expanding their father's vineyards to more than twice their original acreage.

This is the very definition of a "daily" red - a champion of quality and affordability with more than enough substance to keep us wanting more... and more. Plum & Rich black cherry, cocoa, Five spice with a lip smacking finish.$14.50

Domaine Comte Abbatucci Cuvee Faustine 2011- a blend of mainly Sciaccarellu and Niellucciu-the Corsican landscape bursts from the glass, but another image flows through my mind, that of sugarcane fields, pltanos, and avocado trees. That first sip lingers, This wine has so much freshness, herbaceousness, and exoticism.$42.50

Vietti Barolo Castiglione 2010- beautiful in the way it brings together the vibrancy of the year with a soft, inviting textural presence. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet spices, anise and red berries are all woven together nicely in the glass. With time in the glass, the wine blossoms with exquisite finesse, floral aromatics and exquisite overall balance. Ripe, silky tannins support the exquisite finish.$56.50

Clelia Romano Fiano di Avellino Colli de Lapio 2012- Highly aromatic nose of honey, lemon, liquorice and tarragon, plus a saline, brothy character. Strong acidity and concentrated, piquant flavors of citrus rind and minerals give this very impressive yet somehow delicate wine great intensity. Finishes very long and firm. $28.00

Domiane de la Pepiere Muscadet Sevre et Maine 2012- Classic muscadet aromas of sea salt, lemon, lime and thyme. The initial palate impression is a bowl of ripe passion fruit, but that develops an added layer of pear, which, in kaleidoscope fashion, expands into a lime-flavored finish. Muscadet is rarely this complex. And this is only Olivier's entry level wine! $18.50
