July 2014
Issue: #21

Guru Purnima is an ancient holy day originating in India.

We need a teacher and teaching to learn most anything.

In the same way, to learn yoga,

a teacher & teaching is a helpful guide.

Each year during July's full moon, the auspicious

Guru Purnima is recognized.

We celebrate many holidays and holy days.

It only seems natural to also celebrate the universal truth

and the many teachers that shared their rivers of knowledge.

As the Rig Veda states:

Truth is One ~ sages call it by various names.

Let us all celebrate and implement

the wisdom in our daily lives.

Guru = Knowledge

Open the eyes, open the mind.

Open to this beautiful life.

You can wear any colored sunglasses to view the world.

All depends on the samskaras,

prints we've sowed in the mind.

The mental garden is created by you.

As the Gardener, remove the weeds.

Plant positive qualities, skills, and talents.

Water regularly through concentration, meditation and devotion.

The inner guru, universal knowledge, will awaken

in the lotus of the heart, anahata cakra.

Vision returns guiding the way hOMe.

~  Yogini Kaliji

Sri Swamiji made a 'surprise' visit to the Orange County TriYoga hOMe.

One of the highlights of Sri Swamiji's visit was a private impromptu concert performed on Yogini Kaliji's personal keyboard.
Sri Swamiji met all the "temple tigers," the five cats who live at the ashrama.  The year-old triplets delighted Sri Swamiji with their playful energy and expanding love.

Sugar Free Mango-filled Cupcakes

Cupcake:

1 1/2 cups whole wheat pastry flour

1 cup sugar-free sweetener (monkfruit, xylitol or stevia)

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup cold water

1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons grapeseed oil

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Filling:

1/2 - 1 cup fresh mango puree

Frosting:

1/2 cup vegan margarine

1/2 cup coconut cream, chilled (the thick part at the top of a can of coconut milk)

1 tablespoon of sweetener

Combine the cupcake ingredients (mix the dry first, then add in the wet) and bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes, until lightly browned and baked through. Let cool completely.

Using a small spoon, scoop out a small hole in the top of each cupcake (save the top that you take out). Scoop out some of the extra cake from the hole. Fill with a teaspoon of the mango puree and replace the top.

Using a standing or hand-held mixer, beat the frosting ingredients until fluffy. Spread over the cupcakes.

Makes 12 regular cupcakes or 40 mini-cupcakes.
