Real Questions from Real People
Just wondering what is going on with Allegheny Rd?  Is it being repaved or widened?  There is a great deal of activity on it from Peterson north to the entrance to Saddlebrook Farms.

The first half mile of Alleghany, north of Peterson Rd (ending approximately around the Com Ed high tension lines), will be reconstructed and widened in conjunction with the Peterson Rd widening and reconstruction.  This work will result in an improved intersection at Peterson and Alleghany, allowing for 2 left turn lanes, and a right turn lane onto Peterson Rd.  Also, Alleghany will be resurfaced from where the widening ends to Hojem Rd (just north of the railroad tracks).

Currently, North Shore Gas is working to relocate their gas main to accommodate the widened road, and Lake County Grading is installing new storm sewer and grading for the new lanes along Peterson.

Watch your speed limit through the construction zone because people are getting tickets!

Consider sharing your native plants

We are looking for donations of native flowering plants for the Fremont Township Community Garden.  Our garden would like to do its part to support the native pollinators that are an integral part of our food web.  Native plants provide food and shelter for these insects, while helping produce food.  If you have extra native plants, such as echinacea, yellow coneflower, bergamot, boneset, blazing star, compass flower, little bluestem or prairie dropseed, please consider sharing with our community garden!  Contact Alicia at adodd67@comcast.net to coordinate drop-off.

A special Thank You to Jack Bowes, Dan Beelow and Rick Podgorski who donated bees for our garden.  Alicia will be bringing them to the garden on Saturday! Every workday seems to be accompanied with a special gift--sometimes it's new knowledge or meeting more wonderful friends of the garden. Other times the gift takes a more physical form--like the signs that arrived last Saturday, handcrafted by Earl and Jeanne Brown. Made of cedar with the burned lettering, these signs will last for years and they are going to make veggie bed identification a piece of cake, as well as helping newcomers identify what we have growing! The Browns also mounted the girls scouts painted birdhouses to their posts and we will be installing them soon.

Next week is a busy week in the garden! We have a corporate workday on Tuesday afternoon, a class from St Mary's on Thursday (early afternoon) and an Indian Princess work team on Saturday morning. Volunteers are always welcome.

Kirk Players Offer Free Summer workshops  on Monday nights June 15th through July 27th. If you are interested drop them a noteat info@kirkplayers.org.  Their summer workshops for children and adults are, and have always been, FREE!

Any child ages 5 to 14 who is interested in exploring the stage is invited to join them or a 7-week children's theatre workshop. Led by experienced Kirk Players, their workshop provides young actors with an opportunity to perform while giving them the ability to apply theatre techniques that can be used to enrich their everyday life. They will organize classes by age groups and these classes are still free of charge. Younger children play theatre games that use their highly developed sense of imagination and start them on the way to enjoying theatre. They learn listening skills, practice following directions and develop respect for others and their ideas. Older actors will be using scripted material to learn to develop characterization, think on their feet, improve focus and vocal projection and learn how to use stage directions.

For our adults workshop, they are asking students to bring their own material to work on - Paddy Lynn will explain more the first time they meet.  For your reference, here is a summary of the details for both programs:
