Market Updates
Get ready to see all of your favorites at market this week, because none of our regular vendors will be taking the week off! Gelato Maestro  will be back with a cart full of gelato. On call vendors Rossi Farms, Portland Regular Bread, and Ole World Oils  will all be at market this week to share their great products with you!

A week from Saturday (the 12th) is Kids Day at Hollywood Farmers Market! We'll have live music by Steve Cooper and Talalluh's Daddy, community booth activities by Rose City Park Neighborhood Preschool, and another awesome kids' cooking demo with Joanna - Easy Quick Pickles! This will be the last kids' cooking demo of the season, so make sure and stop by, thanks Joanna for a great season, and make a jar of pickles with your child!

Joanna is also now taking signups for after-school kids' cooking classes, including Tuesday classes just up the road at Old Salt Marketplace on NE 42nd. More info on her website Turnip the Heat Cooking School!

Our August photo contest has concluded, and we're sifting through the entries to decide on the finest. The winner and runner up will be announced on our Instagram page during Saturday's market! Look for it!

We are still looking for interested community members to join our board of directors! People with background in the areas of community outreach, agriculture, communications, account/financial planning, and marketing are particularly needed. Click here for more info and the application!

See you at the market!
InFARMation and Beer, next Tuesday 9/8
Get the Nerve to Preserve!
Join Friends of Family Farmers on Tuesday, September 8th from 6:00 - 8:30 at the Holocene (1001 SE Morrison St) in Portland for InFARMation (and Beer!). This month's topic? Get the Nerve to Preserve!

Preserving the bounty of Oregon's harvest ensures access to nutritious, local products throughout the year. Canning, freezing, dehydrating, pickling, and fermenting techniques redirect excess produce from the fields to the pantry shelves. Whether taking on the endeavor at home or purchasing value-added products directly from farmers, food preservation keeps the locally grown green beans and peaches on our plates in February.

Since 2012, Oregon farmers are allowed to produce and sell certain processed products using ingredients that they grow directly to their consumers. We will learn more about the nitty gritty of the processing, how to acquire the local bounty both in raw and preserved forms, and the rules and regulations governing the preservation methods.

InFARMation takes place at the Holocene (1001 SE Morrison St) in Portland every second Tuesday of the month. Doors open at 5:30 pm, and presentations begin at 6:30.

Our panel for Tuesday, September 8:
Megan Denton is the force behind Able Farms, where she raises pastured animals & cultivates vegetable and fruit on Sauvie Island. Able Farms is a platform where the culinary, agricultural, and artistic worlds come together to support community.

Leah Rodgers co-owns and operates Rockwood Urban Farm, a highly productive, small-scale community supported endeavor in east Portland. Leah and her partner grow vegetables and flowers using organic methods that are sold directly to restaurants and members of their CSA. Rockwood Urban Farm offers bulk quantities of commonly processed produced as part of their household CSA share.

Sarah Masoni is a Senior Faculty Research Assistant and Food and Process Development Team Manager at the Oregon State University Food Innovation Center Experiment Station. There, she works as a liaison between the university and the food manufacturing industry by managing staff, projects, and budgets at an innovative, leading-edge technology center. She is also a recognized Flavorist with strong relationships with ingredient vendors and flavor companies, and regularly serves as an official judge for local and national product evaluations.
Bring your friends and join the conversation!

InFARMation is FREE, open to the public and all ages! It happens every 2nd Tuesday of the month from 5:30-8:30 pm at Holocene (1001 SE Morrison) in Portland. Doors open at 5:30; Presentation begins at 6:30.

The topic changes each month but the focus is always on food, farming, policy a nd the connections in between. Read more about InFARMation and  see upcoming and previous topics here>>>

Winter Plant Starts
Gales Meadow Farm
You may be thinking "It's still summer, I have plenty of time to think about my winter garden", but you would be wrong! It's right now, when tomatoes are ripening on the vine, to be thinking about (and planting) the vegetables that will be producing for you all winter long and even into the spring. Luckily, Gales Meadow Farm has been doing the thinking for you, and has kale, broccoli, and collard starts available, ready for transplanting into your garden!

Quinoa Bread
Gabriel's Bakery
Gabriel's Bakery is probably best known for their bagels or maybe their delicious and generously portioned pastries, but one of the best products from this bakery is their quinoa sandwich bread.  Like all their sandwich breads, it's made with sustainable grains and no preservatives and it toasts up real nice.  Other sandwich breads made by Gabriel's include Walnut Bread, Molasses Bran and Sunflower Seed.
