Market Updates
Saturday's market proves to be a wonderful one, with summer produce in full swing and a few of your fall favorites making their way into the market. You'll find a large selection of fresh, crisp apples and pears, a few winter squashes, as well as all your summer favorites!

A few of our regular vendors will be taking the week off from market. Nourishment, Gelato Maestro, and Hammer & Tuffy's Hand Roasted Granola will all be back next week after a much needed break!  We're happy to have the following on call vendors attending the market this week:  House Spirits Distillery Ole World Oils Portland Regular Bread , and  Rossi Farms.

This Saturday is your last chance to enter HFM's annual photo contest!!! You can enter your beautiful photos simply by posting them on Instagram with the hashtag #hfmphotocontest. You can find the contest rules on the right sidebar of this newsletter, as well as here. First prize is $20  in farmers market tokens!

We are still looking for interested community members to join our board of directors! People with background in the areas of community outreach, agriculture, communications, account/financial planning, and marketing are particularly needed. Click here for more info and the application!

We are really in the peak of the local produce season, where just about all summer produce is available at the market in peak quality! Sometimes it's so overwhelming that it can be hard to know what to buy and what to make. To help you with those decisions, below are recipes for a few of our summer favorites!

See you at the market!
Summer Recipes
Panzanella

This bread-tomato salad is a delicious summer treat, and really only works with fresh, in-season tomatoes. Enjoy them while they last!

8 oz. stale bread, cubed
4 tomatoes, seeded and diced
1 red onion, chopped
12 leaves fresh basil, shredded
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4-1/2 lb. mozzarella, cubed
1/4 C olive oil
1 T balsamic vinegar

Toast bread for 10 minutes in a 350 oven. Transfer to bowl and cool slightly. Toss remaining ingredients with bread. Let sit up to 2 hours before serving.

Thai Cucumber Salad

This spicy and flavorful salad is super-easy to throw together, and everything (except the dressing ingredients) is available at the market right now!

2 medium cucumbers, peeled, seeded, and diced
1 small sweet onion, chopped
1 jalapeno, diced
1 T fresh basil, chopped
1 T fresh cilantro, chopped

Dressing:
1/2 C rice vinegar
1/2 C water
4 T sugar
1/2 t salt

Mix dressing ingredients until dissolved. Combine salad ingredients and marinate in dressing 30 minutes before serving.

Gazpacho

Don't let the summer go by without making gazpacho at least once! This is just one recipe, of course there are many variants. Shredded crabmeat (added after pureeing) and bell peppers are two common additions.

3 tomatoes, finely diced
2 cucumbers, chopped
1/2 C onion, chopped
2 cloves minced garlic
18 oz. tomato juice
1/2 to 1 C breadcrumbs
3 T vinegar
3 T oil
1/2 t salt
1/2 t pepper
1 t Worcestershire sauce

Puree all ingredients in blender/food processor (or with immersion blender in large pot), chill and serve.
