1. Real-Life Examples of Nonprofits Creating an "Organizational Culture" of Fundraising
The Fundraising Bright Spots Study
By now, I'm sure most of you are aware of the importance of creating a fundraising culture that permeates your entire nonprofit. But what does that really look like?

The study Fundraising Bright Spots, featured in the April 2016 edition of Nonprofit Quarterly, examines 16 social justice organizations that could be considered the poster children for how this strategy can reap positive results in individual giving.

Study authors CompassPoint and Klein & Roth Consulting found the following four themes permeated all 16 organizations:
  1. Fundraising is Core to the Organization's Identity
  2. Fundraising is Distributed Broadly Across Staff, Board and Volunteers
  3. Fundraising Succeeds Because of Authentic Relationships with Donors
  4. Fundraising is Characterized by Persistence, Discipline, and Intentionality

Giving USA 2016 Report Just Released
The Giving Institute's annual report is the go-to source for philanthropic trends in the U.S. The latest report includes oodles of stats on 2015 giving, which, it turns out, was a record-breaking year in total giving to nonprofits.

What drove the growth? While giving was up in all categories, gifts from individuals accounted for most of the increase.
