With the Thanksgiving holiday this month, my mind immediately goes to the concept of thankfulness. Thankfulness is an attribute that I truly want to possess, yet often tend to settle for it's opposite: complaining.

As a father, my attitude is likely the standard at which my children will attempt to reach.  It's not only what I do or say that they will model, but my attitude as well.  When I embrace the attitude of complaining, my children will naturally do the same.  How can I rebuild my attitude (and, consequently, that of my children) to one that reflects thankfulness and gratefulness rather than discontent?

To this end, our November issue of Family Connections is dedicated to helping parents cultivate a spirit of genuine thankfulness in all things.  It is our desire that God use the articles and tips found in this issue to grow in you and your family an attitude of gratefulness this holiday season.

Improving Your Marriage Through Thankfulness

As couples, our individual lives (jobs, ministries, pursuits, hobbies, etc.) can often cause us to forget to see our spouses in the way in which God intended.

In the article found here, Janine Petry encourages couples to see one another as gifts from the Giver in order to encourage thankfulness in our marriages.
For Parents
Gimme, Gimme!

In a culture that is designed to magnify the individual, it is vital for parents to instruct their children in the trappings of such a selfish worldview.

In the article found here, Dr. Bill Maier gives parents advice on how to shepherd their children in gratefulness rather than entitlement.
For Parents and Teens
Entitled to Be Thankful

As parents, we naturally want to give our children good gifts that they will enjoy.  However, in our attempts to provide for our children, an attitude of entitlement can quickly arise in hearts of our young ones.

Janna Jones, in the article found here, gives parents tips on how to help our tweens and teens see outside of themselves and appreciate the gifts God has given.
