Leah's Pantry at Hotel Sandford

ElderHelp enlists our friends at Leah's Pantry to offer cooking classes for the residents at Hotel Sanford, a low income housing residence in downtown San Diego.  Through a partnership with the San Diego Housing Commission, ElderHelp assists 125 senior residents with managing life in a single residency occupancy environment.  We host weekly Coffee & Current Events discussions, Technology workshops, a Walking Club, and we provide parties and special meals. Leah's Pantry has been instrumental in educating residents on healthy eating options and preparing meals with limited resources.  One resident remarks, "Since I learned how to prepare and store my food better, I'm losing weight and feeling great!"

Congratulations to our
 Volunteer Services Manager !

Amy Hull was recently honored by the Volunteer Administrators Network as a nominee for Volunteer Administrator of the Year.  Amy manages our corps of over 400 volunteers--screening new candidates, getting to know their strengths and interests, and then finding the perfect match with a senior.  She personally introduces each senior to their volunteer and loves to watch their faces light up when they start sharing stories with each other. When Amy checks volunteer references, she always asks, "What three words would you use to describe this person?"  Our three words for Amy...dedicated, energizing, priceless!

Thank you to Smart & Final!

ElderHelp was the proud recipient of a generous donation at the Grand Opening of Mira Mesa's new Smart & Final grocery store.  The ribbon cutting ceremony was especially meaningful for the new store manager who is a graduate of Mira Mesa High School.  On hand from ElderHelp was Associate Executive Director, Anya Delacruz.  Since grocery shopping is one of the services our members rely on most, we are grateful for this support from the community!
