CITY TO REOPEN CANAL STREET FOLLOWING REPAIRS TO TUNNEL AND STREET
Following emergency declaration, City expedited repairs to tunnel wall underneath Canal Street
NEW ORLEANS - TODAY, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will join City and State officials to reopen Canal Street. On April 15, the lake bound lanes of Canal Street were closed when a partial collapse was discovered in one of the tunnel walls constructed as part of the 1966 Rivergate Expressway Tunnel project. Then on April 29, 2016, the roadway collapsed into the tunnel, damaging major and minor drain lines. The New Orleans City Council approved an emergency declaration to expedite repairs, which began on May 6, 2016. Construction was completed safely, ahead of schedule and within the $5M budget.

WHAT: Reopen lake bound lanes of Canal Street following repairs to collapsed tunnel
WHEN: TODAY, June 14, 2016 2 p.m.
WHERE: Canal Street at Convention Center Blvd.
It is with great reluctance that I accepted the resignation of Mandeville Police Chief Rick Richard today, effective July 1, 2016.
Rick was hired by Interim Mayor Bubby Lyons and has served six years as Chief. He entered the position at a controversial time
and moved the department ahead to positive change. Rick successfully implemented the elements of the Tridico Report and
restructured the department to effectively utilize manpower by beginning a full time traffic division and increasing patrol on the street.
Chief Richard upgraded all police computer software and communications including data and equipment to patrol vehicles and integrated
the paperless electronic court system. Rick's experience and contacts gave Mandeville Police greater access to all law enforcement agencies
and sustained our positive image statewide.
On behalf of the City, we wish him the best as he pursues retirement and personal time with family.
MAYOR DONALD J. VILLERE

June 14 - National Cucumber Day
The unique flavor of Hendrick's Gin comes from the infusion of rose petals and cucumber, which makes it the perfect liquor to celebrate National Cucumber Day! In preparation, Hendricks Gin has been flying a 130-foot cucumber-shaped airship, rightfully named The Flying Cucumber, on a coast to coast most unusual expedition to champion the cucumber (which is actually a fruit!). www.hendricksgin.com

June 14 - National Bourbon Day
Celebrate America's "Native Spirit" on National Bourbon Day with Hudson Whiskey or Glenfiddich.
Hudson Whiskey is the first distillery in New York State since Prohibition. The brand's Hudson Baby Bourbon, a smoky bourbon mellowed out by accents of caramel and vanilla, makes a fine Old Fashioned. www.hudsonwhiskey.com

"BLING THE BRA CHALLENGE" FOR THE BODACIOUS BRA BRUNCH FUNDRAISER NOW UNDERWAY FOR FESTIGALS 2016
Teams begin creating Bra-ART to support Breastoration & the Cancer Association of Greater NO
(New Orleans, La.) - Women in the Greater New Orleans area are now teaming up to compete in the annual Bodacious Bras Challenge, FestiGals signature fundraiser where girlfriends, family members and office associates join together to transform ordinary bras into stylish, blinged-out, custom-designed works of art. The unique and creative bra designs only play a part in this challenge; the real significance comes from the online fundraising efforts of each team.
The FestiGals Bodacious Bras for a Cause event has already raised more than $95,000 to support women with cancer. Registration for the fashionable art crowd-funding efforts is now underway, and anyone interested in creating a bra for the Bodacious Bras Challenge should register as a Bra Artist online at www.FestiGals.org by 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016. The Bodacious Bras Challenge is one of the top attractions of the nationally-attended, nonprofit FestiGals weekend event.
Once registered, Bra Artists will receive a confirmation email which contains the link to a personal fundraising page where each team should post pictures of the decorated bra and a personal story detailing why the team decided to participate in the 2016 Bodacious Bras Challenge. Through the personal fundraising page, each team will garner donations for their unique Bra-ART by sharing its story and pictures with family and friends. The online fundraising competition for the Bodacious Bras Challenge ends on Monday, July 11, 2016.
The top three revenue-producing bras will be featured in a live auction at the "Bodacious Bras for a Cause Brunch" on Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. The bra creation that raises the most money from the online challenge and the live auction will receive the Golden Brassiere Award. All proceeds from the Bodacious Bras online challenge and live auction will benefit the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans (CAGNO) and Breastoration, Inc. CAGNO is an organization that helps cancer patients meet the high costs of medical treatment and prescriptions, and Breastoration offers financial help for women seeking breast reconstruction following a battle with breast cancer.
FestiGals has a limited number of complimentary bras available thanks to a generous donation from Stein Mart. Any individual or team in need of a bra to decorate should contact Michelle Linton at michelle@festigals.org or call (504) 524-1227.

Balboa is a swing dance form that developed in California in the 1920s and 30s. It is danced in closer embrace and when swing music gets too fast or the dance floor gets too crowded, Balboa Swing is the best form of swing dancing to use. You can incorporate it with other styles as well. It is just a convenient dance to rest or save space. Because it is danced in closer embrace, it has a very nice feel to it. .

Upon joining the hotel last summer, Burkhart, who holds a Level II Court of Master Sommeliers Certification, spearheaded a comprehensive redesign of Windsor Court's nearly 7,000 bottle wine list. At that time, he also implemented the CoravinTM 1000 System, which allows the restaurant to access, pour and serve wine without removing the cork. One of the only restaurants in the city to provide the service, the Coravin gives The Grill Room the opportunity to offer a rotating list of rare and vintage wines by the glass while keeping them safe from oxidation.

The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for "the most complete-and completely satisfying-new musical in a long time" (USA Today).

On June 24, 1973, an arsonist set fire to the Up Stairs Lounge, a gay bar located on the edge of the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. The result was the largest gay mass murder in U.S. history. Thirty-two people were killed and some bodies were never identified. The primary suspect was never charged with the crime. UPSTAIRS INFERNO brings humanity to the headlines by shining a light on the very painful effect the tragedy had on survivors, witnesses and loved ones.

Fourth annual July 4th flotilla (boat parade) on Bayou St. John at Dumaine Ave and Moss Ave. Starts at 5pm goes til sunset at 8pm. Please be kind to the neighbors and respectful of the environment. One neighbor on the bayou leads an empassioned life filled with hate for our beautiful parade and picnic. He works hard to get it shut down-don't give him or others the opportunity. Be an example of beautiful Americans celebrating our Nation's Independence Day. Respect our freedom to enjoy a day of friends on the Bayou: keep it classy and we will be able to continue this sacred tradition for years to come.
The King and Queen of Kolossos ask that in lieu of gifts you follow the following proclamations:
No litt
ering: Overflowing public trash cans just mean trash blowing into the bayou...Dont add to it. Take your trash home. Fireworks cause tons of litter please do not bring them. Cigarette butts are litter. If you see litter around-please pick it up. Please no Mardi Gras beads, glitter, airborne trash or anything else coming off of your person
Cars: Don't ever drive your car or truck on the bayou to bring your boat in. This hurts the grass and the animal habitats in the banks. Do not block neighbor's driveways. Do not block street traffic.
You are responsible for your own safety. Life vests and sobriety are a magic equation for safety. Driving a boat while intoxicated can land you in jail for drunk driving.
Parade is weather permitting.
BOATS:
Bridges are very low, often less than 2 ft from the water. Only small boats, kayaks, and canoes and homemade designs will be short enough. Gas motors are not allowed. Small electric motors are allowed.
If you do not own a boat you can rent canoes, kayaks and paddle boards for about $25. I recommend reserving before July 4th as last year the demand was higher than the supply.

"In recent years, it has been exciting to watch Americans take an ever-growing interest in the sourcing, preparation, and artistry that goes into the food we eat," said Susan Ungaro, president of the James Beard Foundation. "There are great chefs turning out truly inspired food from Charleston to Portland and everywhere in between, and we are thrilled to be able to bring so many of them together to foster a delicious dialogue about our country's vibrant culinary landscape for the fourth year running."
The James Beard Foundation is proud to donate a portion of the evening's proceeds to the Taste America Scholarship Fund. Local culinary students in Louisiana are invited to apply for this culinary scholarship between April 1 and May 15, 2017, via jamesbeard.org. Candidates will be reviewed by the JBF Scholarship Selection Committee, chaired by Ungaro.

With tempting aromas of dark cherry, blackberry and spice, Zin-phomaniac is a complex, full-bodied wine with juicy, approachable flavors of ripe blue-purple fruit and dark semi-sweet chocolate. A kiss of vanilla and a touch of brown baking spice add depth to the long, satisfying mouthfeel.
