Welcome to the 2016 Tellico Summer Solstice Weekend. The TVA Recreation Area just off Hwy. 321 at Tellico Parkway is our host for the Saturday, June 18th Sprint Triathlon with 800 meter Swim, 16 mi Bike and 5K Run.  Sunday, June 19th brings the Half Marathon & 5K. Events benefit the Smoky Mountain Service Dog Foundation and other area charities.
 
The Tellico Recreation Area is located outside Lenoir City, TN just off Rt. 321 on Rt. 444  - Tellico Parkway. Lenoir City is about 30 miles Southwest of Knoxville. From I-75 exit #81 take Rt. 321 towards Maryville approximately 4 miles to exit for Rt. 444 Tellico Parkway. The exit is NOW TO THE RIGHT just after crossing the Fort Loudon Dam due to construction. The Tellico Recreation Area is straight ahead at the end of the ramp. Please park in the field to the left before the transition area. or on right directly behind bike transition area. Keep small parking lot on right clear, as it is part of the run course(s).

 
Race number assignments for runs and triathlon will be posted on our main Web Page this week. Please check for your status -age group, age, gender, etc. Water temp updates will also be there - currently 81 degrees. Water should be over 78 degrees by race day June 18th.
 
We will be using the LIVE RESULTS via RunSignUp service for the Half Marathon / 5K & Sprint Triathlon events. Please make sure you have set your result notification to self, family & friends. Here are links to update -  RUNS -  TRIATHLON. Your finish and splits times will be available virtually immediately to you, family & friends as times enter our scoring programs. Results will also be available at our result computer kiosks.

Friday - June 17th - 4 PM - 6:30 PM  - Late Reg./Packet Pickup at Race Site - Tellico Recreation Area - Course walk through at 6 PM

Saturday, June 18th - Late Reg./ Packet Pickup 6 AM - 7 AM 
Chip pickup & body marking. USAT License & Photo ID Required - Relays come together!

Parking : Please turn right onto the new pavilion road & then park in the large field to LEFT or directly behind bike transition area on right. Rows will start just off the road. 
 PLEASE KEEP TAIL OF CAR  / BIKE RACKS OUT OF ROAD.
 
7:05 AM Bikes must be in the transition area / Race overview near finish area - Run number must be visible on  FRONT AT FINISH. Bike number is required. Do not alter race numbers (no cutting). Athletes only in transition.

Start Times- Sprint Triathlon - 7:30 Men U40; 7:33 Men 40+; 7:36 Women, Relays & Aqua-Bike
Water temperature: approx. 81 - most likely non-wetsuit
Awards ceremonies: Triathlon Approx. 10:30 AM

Swim (map link): The swim is a wave start from inside the swim area. The course will be a rectangular course finishing on the beach of the other swim area. Keep buoys to your Right. Follow flagging/markings to transition area. Kayak / power boat support.

BIKE TRANSITION AND COURSE (map link): Bike racks will numbered  - place bike on row associated with your number. All competitors will be going through the entire transition area. NO RIDING IN THE TRANSITION AREA. There will be a short grass section following swim and to & from bike portion. Please mount and dismount bikes on pavement by  BIKE DISMOUNT SIGNS. Bike course makes LEFT & LEFT out onto Tellico Parkway  - RIGHT on Davis Ferry at mile 5.5, then  LEFT onto Maple Hill at mile 7.5, then  LEFT returning to park on Tellico Parkway at mile 9. Please stay to your right unless passing.  Course is OPEN TO TRAFFIC - be careful. Police will control traffic at Park exit and left back onto Tellico Parkway but again, BE CAREFUL!

RUN INFORMATION (map link)The course will be all within the Tellico recreation area. Runners will head to the marked loop around the boat ramp lot, back to LEFT onto pavilion road, go up onto the levy path, turn RIGHT down the levy path to gate turn-around - return levy path and proceed on approx. .75 mile to turn-around at dam. Return to gate at end of levy (2nd time), back up to levy path & park roads to finish past transition area. There are 3 water station passes on the course. Finish to under large arch / banner.

PLEASE REVIEW -  Web link to common USAT violations .  Remember to stay to the far right unless you are passing someone. Helmets must be ANSI approved and buckled at ALL TIMES WHILE ON THE BIKE.
 
***  Please bring your PHOTO ID & USAT card to registration or be prepared to pay the $15 one-day USAT insurance fee.  If you wish to join USAT, call 1.719.597.9090 for membership information. You CAN pay $50 for annual membership fee at the race.

5:45 AM - 6:45 AM Half Marathon & 5K
7 AM - Half Marathon Start
7:30 AM - 5K Start
8:30 AM 5K Awards
10 AM  -  Half Marathon Awards  - late finishers will receive their awards

13.1 Mile Route (link) - Scenic views throughout the 13.1 mile run with a fair share of hills to boot! Route is a true "out & back"- runners loop boat ramp lot, move to Tellico Parkway shoulder, travel along Tellico Levy to Tellico Dam, back to Parkway, travel 4 miles to turn-around - runners re-trace exact route back to start. 12 aid station passes for half marathon. Base Hydro & water at stations.

5K Route (link) - Runners loop boat ramp, continue back pavilion road to Tellico Levy, follow signs to Tellico Parkway gate, turn-around & out to Tellico Dam along levy, back to Gate, up to ramp, follow levy & pavilion road to finish
