"Come learn about the County's plan to utilize a century-old aqueduct to bring treated sewage 13 miles through communities from Bay Park to Cedar Creek."

The Cedar Creek Oversight Committee will be meeting at the Administration building of the Cedar Creek Water Pollution Control Plant on Thursday June 16, 2016 at 6 p.m.  Nassau County Department of Public Works will be present to update the community on the proposal to divert treated effluent from the Bay Park Plant, utilizing a 125 year-old aqueduct that has been decommissioned for 40 years, through our communities for 13 miles to hook into Cedar Creek's 50 year-old ocean outfall pipe.

Is it a coincidence that at the same time, the County is moving forward with, as was quoted in Bloomberg News in 2012 as  "THE BIGGEST ONE-SHOT EVER FOR A NEW YORK MUNICIPALITY?"

Yes, that's right.  THE COUNTY'S ELABORATE SCHEME TO RAISE OUR SEWER TAXES IS BACK!

Last week nine financial firms put in bids to lease Nassau's sewage treatment plants for 49 years for at least $600 million so that it can retire the $500 million debt from its bonds for sewer improvements and retire at least $100 million of its county-wide debt that would fill the county's budget gap for one year and release NIFA from its control of Nassau's finances.

Investors expect to get at least 15% return for their investment and will be setting our sewer rates. We will see our sewer rates skyrocket as the sewer charges won't be subject to the 2% tax cap.  For the County to refinance its debt in a way that will hold its citizenry hostage for 49 years under monopoly conditions by an investment firm that needs to make a profit for its stockholders, is unconscionable.
