June 2016

Our much deserved dog days of summer are almost here!

While relaxation is a definite must, you'll also want to plan a few activities too.  Why not create a list and hang it on your fridge so you never run out of ideas.

Here are a few low cost or almost free things to do with the children and grandchildren this summer:

Go on a hike, play in the sprinkler, tell jokes, put on a magic show, build a blanket fort, tour a fire station, wash the car, find a 4-leaf clover,  visit the library, take a bike ride, play dress up or even have a water balloon fight.  The list is endless, just use your imagination!

Wishing you loads of fun in your summer adventures!

The Curious History of Cash

Cash is widely recognized as meaning financial currency that can be accessed immediately.

The origin of the word cash is less clear.  Some claim that the word cash comes from the modern French word caisse, which means (money) box, from the Provencal word caissa, from the Italian cassa, from the Latin capso all meaning box.  In the 18th century , the word passed to refer to the money instead of the actual box containing it.  Another claim is that it was derived from the Tamil word kasu meaning a coin, by the East India Company.

Tip of the Month - Start a Garden

Gardening can be an inexpensive hobby if you have a yard.  Just rent a tiller, till up a patch and add some soil.  Plant some plants, keep it weeded, and you'll have a low-cost hobby that produces healthy food for your family.

I like planting a bunch of tomato plants and enjoying a huge flood of tomatoes at the end of each summer.  We like to eat them fresh, can them, and make tomato juice, sauce, paste, pasta sauce and pizza sauce.
