What Happened this Week?

The largest donation this week was from SEIU Healthcare IL IN, who gave  $51,801  to their PAC on June 2 nd.  On that same day, a coalition of groups, including SEIU, released a white paper in opposition to Illinois' new overtime policy for the Home Services Program. The policy, which was introduced last month, restricts providers to less than 40 hours a week in an effort to avoid paying overtime recently mandated by the U.S. Department of Labor.

On Tuesday , the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters transferred $25,000 to 56th District State Representative Michelle Mussman's (D) candidate committee. Mussman was one of the top earners last week, and this union is one of her largest consistent contributors. She faces a challenge on the November ballot from Jillian Bernas (R) in the 56 th  District, which she won by less than 1,000 votes in 2014. Mussman currently holds $482,854 in her campaign committee, while Bernas has $21,459.

The Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters also transferred $25,000  to 55th District State Representative Marty Moylan (D), who is the incumbent in a contested race against Dan Gott (R). Moylan currently has $592,768 in his campaign committee, while Gott, who established his political committee on May 16, has reported $1,000 in contributions so far.

The committees receiving the most donations this week were SEIU, the Burnham Committee, and Citizens for Alderman Reilly. The Burham Committee has been linked to longtime Chicago Alderman Ed Burke, and currently has $1.4 million in available funds. This week, they added another $43,000, with most of those funds coming from individual $1,500 contributions from local businesses and law firms. 42nd Ward Alderman and Vice Mayor of Chicago Brendan Reilly gained $32,500 this week, bringing his total campaign funds to just over $1 million. There is speculation that Reilly may be preparing for a potential Mayoral run, although he has denied those rumors.
