Thank you to the US Navy volunteers for all they do!
Volume 22  |  Issue 4  |  June 2016

Thank you to all volunteers - you are the heart and soul of BASCA! May brought out many of our volunteers who spent time with us at The Players Championship, keeping the New Campus looking beautiful, assisting with reception, and performing many other necessary tasks. Sailors from NAS JAX worked with our regular building maintenance volunteers to begin installing the dust collection system in Custom Creations - a much needed project to keep our participants working in a healthy and safe environment. We would also like to welcome new volunteers from Target who worked at one of the two refreshment booths at TPC.

There are many opportunities for volunteerism here at BASCA:
  • Assist in our office with reception, data entry, or other clerical tasks.
  • Tuesday nights at 7 pm you can help with arts & crafts, music, and games at BASCA Activity Night.
  • On Saturday you can help out with High Rollers Bowling at Bowl America in Orange Park from 1pm to 3 pm.
  • There are opportunities for volunteers on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the garden from 9am to 11:30 am.
  • Join our Ladies Auxiliary. They meet the 3rd Thursday of every month at 2 pm.
  • If you like helping at events you can sign up to help at our annual Gala event, our 5K walk/run, or our golf tournament.
Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Lucy, at (904) 541-1742 if you would like to learn more about the many volunteer opportunities available.
BASCA would not be the organization we are today without its many volunteers. Please stop by and visit with us and see how you can make a difference in the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

God Bless,
John Cone

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

Awesome Volunteers
By Lucy Conrad, Volunteer Coordinator

BASCA's volunteer program had an awesome May!  The highlight of the month was our five days at The Player's Championship.   We had over 25 volunteers participate and earned more than $5000 for BASCA.  Working together in support of such a good cause is always a wonderful and rewarding time.

BASCA has also benefited from the services of sailors from NAS Jacksonville who have been working on multiple projects at New Campus.  These sailors have cleaned, painted, moved furniture, moved furniture again and generally done whatever task was most needed at the time.  Lastly we have begun to have some volunteer help in the BASCA office.  We now have a volunteer to help at the front desk in the afternoons and several volunteers who are helping with mailings and other office tasks.

So....what talent do you have that you would like to share?  Contact Lucy ( [email protected] ) for more information.....we'd love to hear from YOU.

Program Highlight: In His Wakes

Story by Rachel Enz
Rachel loves taking pictures with her camera, participating in many of BASCA's programs, and living in one of our group homes.

In April we went to *In His Wakes. Some rode on the knee boards. Others had a blast on tubes. We went up and down on the tubes and skis. Everyone enjoyed the water, tubing, and boating rides.

*In His Wakes is an outdoor water experience for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities that BASCA has participated in for many years. This event provides knee boarding, water skiing, tubing, and boat rides on Lake Swan in Keystone.
