Tuscany Italy
Top three reasons to visit Tuscany
Italy is one of my most favourite destinations, specifically Tuscany. I've visited this charming part of Italy at least a dozen times and would go back in a heart beat. The most beautiful time of the year is the fall when harvest season is in full swing. The farmers can be seen on the country roads towing wagons of ripened grapes to the local winery.
Wine tasting is very popular at this time of year, along with their delectable meats and cheeses.
Following are three reasons why you should visit Tuscany this fall.
1. FOOD
Italian cuisine is one of the best in the world. Dining is an experience and a meal may take a few hours as you taste the many courses prepared by the experienced chefs. A visit of a local winery is a must to taste the fine local wines and delectable meats and cheeses.
Cooking classes are also very popular and often your class will begin at the local market to purchase the ingredients for your lesson. Of course you will enjoy the meal you and your companions prepared.
2. ARCHITECTURE & ART
Spanning almost 3,000 years, Italy's architecture is a culmination of many styles including Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque.  Tuscany was the Rennaisance capital of Italy and Florence may be the Renaissance capital of the world - all that breath-taking architecture, those stunning museums, art galleries, churches, squares and fountains. You will find the magnificent Santa Maria del Fiore  Cathedral. The dome, which dominates the exterior, was added in the 15th century on a design of Filippo Brunelleschi.
Florence has two of the most famous art galleries in the world; the Academia which houses Michealangelo's David and the Uffizi houses some of the most important works of the Renaissance, including works by Leonardo da Vinci.
3. HISTORY
Tuscany's history is one that is lengthy and tumultuous, but one that offers much to explore during a visit. Tuscany is named after it's pre-Roman inhabitants, the Etruscans.
It was ruled by Rome for many centuries. In the Middle Ages, it saw many invasions, but in the Renaissance period it helped lead Europe back to civilization. Later, it settled down as a  grand duchy . It was conquered by Napoleonic France in the late 18th century and became part of the Italian Republic in the 19th century.
