Dear Friends:
I am sitting at my kitchen table as I write this, welcoming the rainy morning. Like many of you, our summer has been extremely busy. My husband described it yesterday as, "Trying to fit 6 months of activities into 3 months."
I have wanted to send out a news update for the past few weeks, but as you know from our event emails, we have been going full tilt since April. On the sidebar I have included links to our Facebook Galleries where you can see all of the pictures from our events this spring and summer.
In addition to organizing these various awareness and fundraising events, FNLC has been involved in many conversations about the
Critical Source Area Study done in 2011 and the petition to the Secretary of Agriculture form the Conservation Law Foundation. Pixley Hill, FNLC Founding Member, Kent Henderson, FNLC Chair, and I testified at the public hearing held in St. Albans on July 18th
.
On another note, FNLC has been involved in Statewide application for the newly released Conservation funding made available from the new Farm Bill. The Regional Conservation Partnership Program will provide resources to implement on farm conservation projects.
FNLC continues to work with farmers, municipalities, and landowners to develop solutions to our water quality issues in Lake Champlain. We hope to keep you engaged in this conversation with us. Our project list is as long as our events list and we will provide you with an update on all of our current projects in September. Also, stay tuned for a Green Infrastructure/ Stormwater Tour we are planning.
We hope to see you at the Annual Run & Walk for the Lake on September 7th. If you would like to volunteer, please send me a note
[email protected].
Sincerely,
Denise Smith
Executive Director
