4th of July From Bald Knob

fireworks If you like to watch the fireworks, but don't like the noise, atop Bald Knob Mountain is where you need to be on the evening of the 4th of July. On a clear night, you can watch fireworks from several different communities, without any noise, because they are so far away.

The gate will be open later than usual, and the Welcome Center will be open, so bring a lawn chair and plan to come watch the "silent fireworks" from the highest point in southern Illinois!

A New Mower Donated!

new mowerWe are delighted to share that a donor who wishes to remain anonymous has generously donated a brand new mower to Bald Knob Cross!

This will make an enormous difference in our ability to more effectively maintain the grounds at the cross. Our present mowers were both in dire need of repairs. Can you tell our caretaker is pleased?

Thank you so much to those responsible for this wonderful donation!

Development Council Volunteers at Bald Knob Cross

painting project A big Thank You to Denna, Trina, Vicki and Crystal from the Shawnee Development Council for their volunteer time at the Cross on June 7th. Lots of sanding and painting was done to refurbish one of our large picnic tables. It will be the first to be moved up near the Cross.

Would your group like to do a service project at Bald Knob Cross? We would love to have you come and share a few hours, a day, or a few days and experience the joy of contributing to this ministry. We will do our best to make your time enjoyable and meaningful. Contact Jeff, the Caretaker, at the Welcome Center (618) 893-2344 or Teresa, the Director, at director@baldknobcross.com.
Name Plaques Installed

name plaquesDo you recognize any of the people in these pictures? If you said Wayman Presley, William Lirely, and Myrta Clutts, you're exactly right. Three people who are recognized as those who had the vision, made the sacrifices, and stayed the course to make Bald Knob Cross a reality. The pictures have been in storage for quite some time, but they are again proudly displayed on the walls of the Welcome Center, with new name plaques under each picture.

If you haven't been to the cross in a while, come and visit and see the new name plaques and honor those who made the cross possible.

Pavers Make Great Gifts!

paverThinking about what to do for Father's day? You could honor your loved ones with a commemorative paver brick to be a permanent part of the magnificent Bald Knob Cross grounds. Upon request, with your brick order we can send a card to present to the recipient that a brick has been ordered in their name. Or, if Dad/Grandpa is deceased, you can purchase a brick to honor them.
