Inspire Theatre's Complete Works of William Shakespear (Abridged) -  If you are looking for something different this weekend, consider visiting the Westland Center for the Arts.  The Inspire Theater will be performing their new show this weekend.  "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)" is a funny show, equipped with adult humor and a host of hysterical characters.  Tickets for this  show are available now  here  or you can get them at the studio located at 33455 Warren Road.  The shows are at 7:30 p.m. on  Friday, June 10  and  Saturday, June 11 and there is also a 3:00 p.m. matinee show on  Sunday, June 12.

Mornings with the Mayor -   Mayor William R. Wild is taking his monthly "Mornings with the Mayor" on the road in 2016. Mornings with the Mayor helps residents connect with Mayor Wild and his administration about matters of importance regarding City services or programs and events. This month's "Mornings with the Mayor" will take place on  Tuesday, June 14  and will take place at Online Tech , located at 6435 Hix.  This month's meeting is sponsored by Gordon Chevrolet. We will be raffling off five $10 Meijer gift cards.

50th Anniversary Splash Bash - The City of Westland's 50th Anniversary Kick Off the Summer Splash Bash takes place on Thursday, June 16 at Central City Park.  The event starts at 5:00 p.m. with free hot dogs, snacks, water and giveaways.  There will also be kids safety activities and you can check out the latest police and fire equipment.  Admission to the very popular H20 Zone will also be free.  At 7:00 p.m. attendees will be treated to a special showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens .

Westland Police Department 50th Anniversary Open House - On Saturday, June 18 the Westland Police Department will be celebrating their 50th anniversary open house.  The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. with an opening ceremony.  At 10:30 a.m. tours of the remodeled police station and ride alongs will begin.  There will also be food served and a number of demonstrations including K9, Taser and motorcycle demonstrations.  There will also be activities for children and police equipment will be on display.  The event will conclude at 3:00 p.m.  

Be Proud!  Be Responsible - On  Saturday, June 18, the Westland Youth Assistance Program will be presenting a "Be Proud, Be Responsible" program for area teens.  This free program gives young people the information they need to make good choices when it comes to their relationships.  The program begins at 10:00 a.m. and students attending get a free lunch, special prize, and all of the required materials.  This event will take place at the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, located at 32150 Dorsey St.  You can register by calling the Youth Assistance Program at 734-467-7904

The City is served by two public school districts; Wayne-Westland Community Schools serving 12,000 youth was recently named one of the Best School in Michigan by WXYZ-TV and is the proud recipient of 14 Golden Apple and two Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Awards.  Livonia Public Schools, educating nearly 15,000 students, is proud of their MEAP/MME scores that exceed state averages and the District has also earned Golden Apple and Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Awards.
