Air Traffic Control Association

A Message from Candidate Bill Ellis

Fellow ATCA Members -

I have had the honor of serving on the ATCA Board of Directors for a very short six months by filling the vacancy left by our friend Jim Crook. I have been an ATCA member since 1984, but being a member of the Board of Directors has certainly given me a taste of the challenges and opportunities that face this great organization. My goal is to contribute as much as I can to help the new Chairperson as well as Pete Dumont, his staff and the general membership continue to make ATCA the premier representative of the Air Traffic Control profession in the world. Although I am the only candidate for election to represent the North Central Area, I think it is only appropriate that you know a little more about me as you place your vote.

I have more than 48 years in the Air Traffic Control profession through service in the United States Air Force, Federal Aviation Administration and private sector. I have held a wide range of controller, staff, and leadership positions at the local, regional and national levels. I have worked in the area of air traffic operations from controller in several field facilities, through senior staff advisor to the Director of Air Traffic and the Associate Administrator for Air Traffic Services in FAA Headquarters, Washington, D.C., and Air Traffic Division Manager in the New England Region. I retired from the FAA in 2003 where I last served in the Senior Executive Service as the Program Director for the Air Traffic Resource Management Program. As Program Director I was responsible for executive oversight of the FAA Air Traffic Control operational budget; the FAA Air Traffic Control Training Program and the day-to-day interface with the various labor unions that represented 24,000 air traffic control employees. I joined Midwest ATC Service, Inc. in 2004 and currently serve as the Vice President, Aviation Services for Midwest ATC Service, Inc. in Overland Park, Kansas. I would be honored to continue to represent you in the North Central Area and appreciate your vote. Finally, if ever you have suggestions, questions, comments, or ideas about improving our organization, I would love to hear from you directly.
