St. Bon's staff attending Tribute Dinner
The money raised from  the Tribute Dinner, supports our bursary program. Thanks to donors, attendees and sponsors, this year's Tribute Dinner netted approximately $19,000. Combined with the donations from our Ignatius Society members and other gen erous donors, the money raised helps to ensure children have the opportunity t o attend St. Bonaventure's College in spite of their family's inability to pay the full tuition. Although it is our hope to help each family that applies, each year it is difficult to meet the demand for assistance.

The school receives no government funding and therefore this program must be funded from outside sources separate from student tuition. This demand continues to increase each year. If you would like to make an additional donation, or become a member of our Ignatius Society, please contact the President's Office at [email protected] or 709-726-0024 ext. 200.

8th Colloquium on
Jesuit Education
The 8th Colloquium on Jesuit Education will be held at Xavier University in Cincinnati from June 20-24, 2016.  We will be represented at the Colloquium by Ms. Gabrielle Martin, Mr. David Martino, Dr. Greg O'Leary and Mr. Tom McGrath.

Colloquium 2016 is designed so that it might provoke in educators from institutions throughout the Jesuit Schools Network a deeper analysis of who we are, what we are doing and how best we might move into the future.Jesuit Education: Deepening Awareness; Calling for Action is the overarching theme of Colloquium 2016 and participants will be challenged throughout the week to consider how Jesuit schools "live wisely, think deeply, and love generously."

Truth & Reconciliation Commission Report
In February our staff participated in a professional development day that focussed on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report. The day involved two sessions. The first session featured Fr. Peter Bisson, SJ and Fr. Winston Rye, SJ speaking about the Society of Jesus' role in the report. The second session featured Mr. Curtis Kleisinger and Ms. Terri Cote from Mother Teresa Middle School in Regina. Mother Teresa is a Jesuit Nativity school with a predominately First Nations student population.

Since February, teachers have brought what they have learned into the classroom. The St. John's Native Friendship Centre has been to the school on a number of occasions to conduct various sessions with our students. As well, the grade 8 class is currently collaborating with students from Mother Teresa via Skype, working on a project using the computer program, Minecraft.

Syrian Refugee Family Arrives
As you may know we have been supporting St. Pius X Parish in their efforts to sponsor a Syrian refugee family. The family arrived late Thursday night from Jordan, and are in the process of getting settled in to their apartment. The family is a young couple and their daughter, who was born in February 2016.

The St. Pius X Syrian Refugee Relief Committee is grateful for all the support from St. Bonaventure's College Community, in particular the teachers who contributed to this project. The financial support and donations from the St. Bon's community were invaluable in allowing them to bring this family to Canada and to provide them with needed support during their first year and beyond here in St. John's.
