Foolscap bifolium (Gater 1811 - Britannia watermark) Secretarial, marginal browning; signed by George Ramsay as 'Dalhousie'.  Dated Halifax 15. September 1819 and addressed to the Judge Advocate General, presumably Sir John Beckett.
Letter referring to lost papers re court martial of ensign 'Alain [?] Hutchinson of the 60 regiment' noting that the prisoner 'appears to be an unfit person to hold a commission in His Majesty's Forces'.  Docket title to verso of second sheet.

A letter of condolence to Mrs. Oppenheim on the death of her husband, Lassa Francis Lawrence Oppenheim, a renowned German jurist. It reads in part: "we counted him among our best friends in Cambridge. It was always a pleasure to meet him, he was always so bright, so cheerful and so interesting." [With original envelope.] ...

First edition. 4-3/4 by 8-1/4 inches, 2,[3]-48.  Complete 48 page  Gentleman's Magazine January 1751 with Kalm's letter and A View of the Fall of Niagara full page image.  New green cloth binding, paper label on front and new endpapers, age toned paper, some light foxing otherwise in very good condition.
Kalm was the first person to scientifically describe Niagara Falls in English from first hand experience and it is the first picture after Hennepin's to be founded on an actual sight of the Falls...

Jean André Cuoq, was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic Church in 1845, he came to Canada in 1846, and was appointed a missionary to the Indians at the Lake of Two Mountains, Lower Canada. Here he remained for many years, and he became an authority on the Indian languages. In his later years he retired to the Seminary of St. Sulpice, Montreal, and he died at Oka, Quebec, on July 21, 1898

An important book, generally regarded as the first work ever published by a Native American woman. Most of the 36 poems in this volume deal with her Native American heritage. Uncommon....

(2)   Correct chart of the seat of war on the coast of France, Spain, Portugal, Italy by Thomas Kitchin dated 1763.
(3)   An accurate map of the seat of the war in the Kingdom of Prussia (Bohemia, Lusatania, Silesia, Saxony and Westphalia by Thomas Kitchin dated 1763. Bottom edge of paper uneven and maks affecting some type along the bottom below the neat line.

Typed signed letter (TSL) with MacKenzie King signature and mention of Neville Chamberlain, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from May 1937 to May 1940 as well as WLMK's family roots connections.

A portfolio of twelve photogravure signed prints in original folder, with printed tissue fly-leaves bearing titles and descriptions. This includes an introduction to the work of Matania (with photograph) written by Clement K Shorter, Editor and Director, The Sphere, dated 30 September 1916.

All prints have a blind stamp to the lower left corner of the print which reads: "Fine Art" "O*OPH*A" "Trade Guild" and the signature of F. Matania in pencil. The description for each print is printed on the tissue guard in the lower right corner. Overall in good condition...
