SCA News and Views Team Takes 5 Eddy Awards including Best News Team
 
St. Catharine Academy captured five first place awards for excellence in broadcast journalism for the ITV series "News and Views", including best news team at the 43rd Annual Eddy Award ceremony in May. The SCA team produced a twenty minute news program "Friends in Faith: Nostra Aetate and the Catholic-Jewish Relationship."

The Best News Team Award (high school) recognizes the best overall program, best general performance, best writing, and reflects the strength of the students' efforts.  Junior Rebecca Cutino accepted the award on behalf of the team.  Individual first place honors were received by Shayla Colon, Feature Story; Cailyn Shepherd, Editorial; and Rebecca Cutino and Yei Mansuo, Interview.  The team also won first place for Research.

The Class of 2016 graduated on June 4 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. The 1 52 graduates earned $17.2 in college scholarships and grants.

National Honor Society Induction
T wenty-seven Juniors and Seniors were inducted into the Mercy Chapter of the National Honor Society; thirty-two Juniors and Seniors were inducted into the National English Honor Society; and sixteen Juniors and Seniors were inducted into the Spanish Honor Society. Three seniors were inducted into the National Beta Society. The societies are moderated by the following faculty:  Carmela Melucci-Ivanov (NHS), Doreen Emerita (English), Patricia Linardi (Spanish) and Sheree Petrignani (Beta).

The induction ceremony featured alumna keynote speaker Marjorie Cadogan, Class of 1978. Ms. Cadogan, a resident of the Bronx, is the Executive Deputy Commissioner, Office of Citywide Health Insurance Access-Human Resources Administration/Department of Social Services.
