Nancy House Named as Next Superintendent

Beginning August 1, a familiar face will be leading the district. At its meeting held on May 16, the Board of Education announced the selection of Mrs. Nancy C. House as the next Superintendent of the Milford Exempted Village School District. Mrs. House currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent and Director of Human Resources for the district. She has served in this capacity for the past year, and has worked in the district for the past 23 years.

"I am honored and humbled to have been selected as Milford's next superintendent and look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence in our schools that has been accomplished through open communication, a strong leadership team led by Dr. Farrell, conservative fiscal management and a commitment to a positive school and community partnership. I also look forward to exploring innovative ways we can work together to take student achievement to new heights," Mrs. House said.

On Saturday, May 21, Milford High School held its one hundred and thirty fourth commencement ceremony at Cintas Center. Congratulations and best wishes to the 491 graduates of the Class of 2016! The class earned more than $13.5 million in scholarship offers and 28 students will continue their athletic careers with athletic and academic scholarships.

VALEDICTORIAN - ANDREW KLAFT

Andrew completed 10 Honors and 12 Advanced Placement courses earning a cumulative weighted grade point average of 5.050. Andrew graduated as an AP Scholar with Distinction and will enroll at The Ohio State University this fall.

SALUTATORIAN - ALEXANDER HARDEWIG

Alex completed 11 Honors and 11 Advanced Placement courses, earning a cumulative weighted grade point average of 4.990. Alex graduates as an AP Scholar with Distinction and will enroll at Purdue University this fall, majoring in Computer Science.

New Administrators at Mulberry and Junior High School

The Milford Board of Education has hired Mrs. Malinda McReynolds as the new Assistant Principal of Milford Junior High School effective August 1, 2016. She is replacing Sarah Sloan, who became principal of Mulberry Elementary when Mr. Brian Zawodny resigned to go to the Kettering School District.

Mrs. McReynolds, a Milford High School graduate, has more than 15 years of experience in education. This past school year, she was the Assistant Principal of Hartwell Elementary in Cincinnati Public Schools. In addition to graduating from Milford, Mrs. McReynolds began her teaching career as a middle school math and science teacher at Milford Main. She has also taught at the elementary level at both Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy and The Seven Hills School.

"I am amazed at how some people go through a series of changes that lead back to an original position or situation in life. Even more so, I'm thrilled that I am one of those individuals as I return to the Milford Exempted Village School District as an assistant principal at the Junior High," Mrs. McReynolds said. "As a former alum and Milford Main Middle School teacher, I am truly honored to return 'home' to where my amazing educational experiences all began!"

In addition to serving on the administrative team at the junior high for the past year, Mrs. Sloan has administrative experience in Hamilton City Schools. Prior to this school year, she was the assistant principal at Bridgeport Elementary School in Hamilton. For 12 years, she was a both a third and fifth grade teacher in the West Clermont Local District. She has also has elementary teaching experience in Clermont Northeastern and Goshen School Districts.

Summer Office Hours

Milford Exempted Village School District administrative offices, 777 Garfield Avenue, will remain open this summer on Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The offices will be closed on Monday, July 4.

Note: Boyd E. Smith's office staff will be temporarily located at McCormick and Seipelt's office staff at Meadovview until their new buildings open in August. Both Boyd and Seipelt's phone numbers remain the same.

Milford Grad Soars

Captain Jared Krueger graduate of Milford High School and the United States Air Force Academy now has his name on a jet!

Jared also made his mark at Milford High School. In addition to playing soccer, he was the valedictorian for the class of 2004. He then graduated from the Air Force Academy and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. Jared continued his education at MIT for two years, where he received his Master's degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics.

"Next was pilot training, and I've been flying jets ever since! I am currently a Captain flying the F-15E Strike Eagle at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho," Jared shared. "I finished a six-month deployment with my squadron to the Middle East, and I am about to move to North Carolina where I will become an instructor pilot in the F-15E."

Pool Open for Family Swim Sessions

School's out for summer, but our pool is open!

Starting on June 6, every Monday through Thursday, the Milford High School pool will be open for Community/Family Open Swim from noon to 4 p.m. There will also be two open swim sessions on Saturday, June 11 and June 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In July, family swims will be held on July 5-7 and July 11-14, from noon to 4 p.m.

You must be a MEVSD resident and complete a waiver form prior to swimming. Any swimmer under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian complete the waiver, and any child under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

New Schools Set to Open in August; Community Open Houses to be held in September

Our construction team and district staff will be busy this summer completing our two new elementary schools. Staff is expected to move in this August to be ready to welcome our students on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 24.

Moving Forward on Next Phase of Master Facilities Plan

The Milford School District is completing a phase of its Master Facilities Plan with the opening of two new elementary schools in August. The next phase of the Milford's Master Facilities Plan calls for replacement of the two oldest buildings in the district, the Milford Junior High School and the Milford Preschool. The completion of renovations to the Milford High School building and campus is also part of the plan and includes traffic routes, parking and extracurricular facilities. The district is now in the queue for state funding in 2017 to complete these plans. The Milford Business Advisory Committee is exploring community partnerships to reduce the costs to the taxpayer and enhance the overall plan.

The district is currently evaluating options for the preschool, junior high school and high school projects. Click here to view an overview of the plan.

A community survey (phone and online) will be conducted over the summer to solicit feedback on the facilities plan. In addition, the district will be hosting community meetings to share plans and receive input.

Milford Athletes Dominate Spring Sports

Milford's baseball team finished its season in the final eight in Ohio. Milford's awesome season included a share of the Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championship, a district crown and a final record of 28-3. The team's exciting post-season run ended in the OHSAA Division I baseball regional finals game where they finished the season as regional runner up.

Milford's record-breaking discus champion, Clare Cartheuser, earned her place on the podium at the Division I OHSAA State Meet. The senior placed 8th overall in Ohio in discus with a throw of 130' 6" at the state meet June 4. This season Clare sent a new school discus record of 133'6" and was the ECC Champ.

Milford's 4x100 meter relay team of Lauryn Knarr and Lindsey Lawson, Emma Netzel and Andrea Armstrong set a new record in the event for the fourth time this season (49.99). The relay team finished 7th overall in the regional finals to conclude their record-breaking season.

The Eagles softball team finished their season ranked #2 in the city with an overall record of 21-4 and 14-0 in league play. The Lady Eagles captured their third consecutive ECC championship.

Milford Teens and Seniors Partnership Featured

A culmination of months of partnership and sharing between Milford High School students and SEM Haven residents was featured at a photo exhibition on Sunday, May 15, at Modern Insurance/Opry House in Milford. At the exhibition, more than $350 in donations were collected at the show to support Clermont Senior Services.

Service Learning Helps Local Agency

Students from Ms. Rheinheimer's and Mrs. Barker's English 10 class decided they wanted to help Dana Dunaway, founder of Newborn 2 Teen, for their Service Learning Project. Through interviewing Dunaway, the students learned that Newborn 2 Teen is a non-profit organization located on Route 28 in Milford, and its core purpose is to help the working poor in our neighborhood. While Newborn 2 Teen sells second-hand goods, the core mission is to provide food through a donation-based food pantry. All of the proceeds from the store go back to facility costs and then to buying food. Dunaway expressed the need for a website, resources to provide to her clients about rental assistance and other financial aid, and advertising flyers.

Using research skills, Google apps, and Weebly, the students created a website and produced the information that Newborn 2 Teen needed. Students also came out the other side with a newfound perspective.

"Every day, I have passed Newborn 2 Teen not knowing it was a non-profit organization and that they help people that have needs. Because of service learning, I know that people may not have as much as I do, and it helped me understand how I can help or what I can do to help change someone's life,' Milford student, Chardaia Sanders.
