Altar Servers Needed!

Grades 5 and up!
Any boy or girl who has received their First Holy Communion and is in 5th grade thru High School can become an altar server. Regular attendance at church, an ability to make a commitment and a family that values worshiping together in the community are all required elements of a successful server. Altar serving is an important and necessary job. It builds character and requires making a commitment. At the same time it teaches many of the principles we try to teach our children.

Altar serving promotes responsibility, accountability, leadership and above all, teamwork. It is also a chance for young people to get to know other catholic children which helps reinforce moral and ethical values our children need to face the difficult issues in today's society.

Flexibility!
Many families with children have challenging schedules. We attempt to offer parents the opportunity to select the weekend mass times they want their children to serve. The opportunity to specify "vacation" dates when their child cannot serve due to other activities. Servers can be scheduled with friends or siblings. The ability to switch masses by swapping shifts with other altar servers. Servers generally are scheduled twice a month to allow for flexibility.

Training!
We ask for each child to attend at least 2 training sessions. We will do training after a 5pm Mass and after a 10:30am Mass.  Please contact Cheri Wolf at cheriawolf@hotmail.com for more information and to sign up.

A History of
St John the Evangelist Parish

by Chris Jarvis

We are still mourning losing a big part of our community!

Chris Jarvis (Dad of Jack and Will) passed away last month but will always be part of the community.  Chris did the research and interviewed some folks to make the history of St John come alive.  We are so lucky to have this document.   Every time I drive by the building on the SE corner of 85th and Greenwood or see a story about the KKK I think about how far we have come.

As the 2016 school year comes to an end and all the items are tucked away and packed up for summer there are some old families that are moving on to new horizons and new families that  are starting their St Johns experience.  We will always have the connections to a tiny little parish church on the hill in Greenwood.  These connections are  strong and will last for many years to come.

Please read this history link and appreciate our teachers, priest and families that help us everyday!

"Quo Vadis" is the Latin phrase for "Where are you going?" Legend tells us that St. Peter asked Jesus this question on the outskirts of Rome. And we know where Jesus went in response to His Father's will.
Quo Vadis Days is a 3-day free camp for young Catholic men to learn more about the priesthood, to deepen their faith, and to better discern God's call in their lives. It was started in the Jubilee Year 2000 by Father John Cihak in the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon as a response to the Holy Father's request that the Church begin "The New Evangelization."

Bill,
William F. Buckley, Jr. was a very famous and accomplished man.  Author, political writer, founder & publisher of "National Review;" worked for the CIA; wine expert; sailed solo across the Pacific with his books, food and wine.  He had the most extensive vocabulary I've ever heard.  He was also a very devout Catholic and author of "God & Man At Yale."
Towards the end of his life, he was being interviewed and was asked this final question:  "What do you regret in your life?"  His answer:  "I wish I knew how to pray better."
Don't we all?
