Program:
Monty Chamberlain, Employment Recruitment Coordinator for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS).  In this role, Mr. Chamberlain is responsible for networking with employers across the state of Texas to share information about the many values disabled individuals can bring to an employer.  Mr. Chamberlain serves as a link between employers and service providers such as Tri-County to increase integrated employment opportunities for disabled individuals, especially those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Mr Chamberlain has 32 years of state government experience having worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for 18 years in business leadership roles and has worked for DADS for the last 14 years in facility operations and business leadership.

LEE COLLEGE OPEN HOUSE
Lee College Education Center South Liberty County is holding an Open House for the public on Saturday, June 11th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet with representatives from various departments and learn what the campus has to offer. There will be free food, giveaways, a raffle, and the chance to meet the Runnin' Rebels basketball team. The location is 1715 Hwy. 146 Bypass in Liberty.

"SHRED-IT" EVENT JUNE 18TH
The City of Liberty will hold their next "Shred-It" event at the City Hall parking lot on Saturday, June 18th from 9 a.m. - noon, or until the truck is full.  Bring your old documents and electronics for commercial shredding in a safe environment. 2016 CHAMBER AUCTION, FUNDRAISER AND STEAK DINNER
Mark your calendars! Friday, August 12 at 6 p.m. is the Chamber's annual auction and fundraiser at the Dayton Community Center. As always, a pit-cooked steak dinner with all the trimmings will be served, while everyone bids on lots of great items throughout the evening. There will be Live, Silent and Chinese auctions. You'll also have the chance to win any one of twelve top prizes including this year's number one prize, a 2015 Dodge 200LX from Liberty-Dayton Chrysler/Jeep/Eagle in Liberty.

This Chrysler 200 LX is a white 4-door midsize family sedan with black interior, featuring a 2.4L l4 MultiAir engine, 9-speed automatic transmission, bucket seats, solar control glass, power windows, 17-inch wheels, Electronic Vehicle Information Center with outside air temperature and tire pressure monitoring display, tilt / telescopic steering column, Uconnect 5.0 AM/FM/BT and much more!

MEMORIAL HERMANN NORTHEAST PURCHASE
In a move that solidifies its commitment to the greater Lake Houston community, Memorial Hermann Health System has reached a deal to purchase the Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital campus from the Northeast Hospital Authority Board of Trustees. With this purchase, Memorial Hermann also unveils plans to construct a new, five-story, state-of-the art, patient tower expected to open in 2018.

The transaction comes on the heels of the announced plans to build a 45,000-square-foot Memorial Hermann Convenient Care Center in Kingwood. The Center will be anchored by Memorial Hermann Northeast and will join the Memorial Hermann Summer Creek Convenient Care Center in serving the greater Lake Houston area.

SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION
Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare is hosting a free event on suicide awareness and prevention June 9th at the Historic Crighton Theatre at 234 North Main Street in Conroe. There will be refreshments from 5:30 - 6 p.m. followed by a 6 - 7:30 p.m. showing of the film The Walking Man starring Mark Norwine.

After a Missouri high school loses three students to suicide, Mark Norwine, a mental health advocate, "embarks on a 200-mile walk across Missouri to educate students and better understand the epidemic for himself." Mark is joined on the trip by his son Eric.

Attendees will be able to meet and have an open discussion with Mark Norwine at the Thursday evening event. For information call 936.521.6100. Admission is free.

NEW OVERTIME RULES ANNOUNCED MAY 18
Business owners should be aware of the Department of Labor's final rule updating overtime regulations, which will "automatically extend overtime pay protections to over 4 million workers within the first year of implementation". The final rule is scheduled to take effect December 1, 2016. For information go to this page on the Department of Labor website.

BILL BUCHANAN TO RECEIVE BROADCASTING AWARD
KSHN-FM General Manager Bill Buchanan will be honored at the Texas Association of Broadcasters Annual Awards Gala on Thursday, August 11th at the Renaissance Austin Hotel in Austin, Texas.

Bill Buchanan will receive the "Pioneer of the Year" award, and will be among four other broadcast leaders who will receive recognition in other categories for their service in radio broadcasting.

TARVER ABSTRACT MARKER AND RECOGNITION
Tarver Abstract Company, 400 Main Street in Liberty, will host a marker dedication from the Liberty County Historical Commission and receive the "Texas Treasure Business Award" from the Texas Historical Commission on Thursday, June 16th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Refreshments and Hors d'oeuvres will be served.
MEMBER UPDATES

  • Hardin Grocery in Hardin now has a drive-thru window for added convenience. The drive-thru service is for their customers who call ahead needing a few grocery items, or food orders from the deli. Owners Milton and Tina Fregia have also removed the gas pumps out front and will use the new space for additional parking.
