On Sunday evening, the Golden State Warriors' Draymond Green imposed his will on the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 of the 2016 NBA Finals, contributing mightily in a 110-77 dismantling of their foe. The two-time, first team All-NBA defender scored 28 points, with Stephen Curry adding 18 and Klay Thompson netting 17, and the rout was on. The Warriors have taken a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series and the relative ease with which they have won suggests it may be time to start thinking parade. The series switches to Cleveland for Game 3 on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m., followed by Game 4 on Friday evening at 6 p.m. Game 5 would return to Oracle Arena on Monday at 6 p.m. (Above, Green in action versus the Miami Heat earlier this year.)

"I've wrestled with alligators, I've tussled with a whale. I done handcuffed lightning, and thrown thunder in jail. You know I'm bad. Just last week, I murdered a rock, injured a stone, hospitalized a brick.
I'm so mean, I make medicine sick."

Hitching a ride on the back of Tim Tsang of the Vancouver Riptide, Barrs Lang of the San Francisco FlameThrowers makes a spectacular catch for a third quarter score in their game on Saturday night, May 28, at Laney College in Oakland. The Riptide were handed only their second loss of the season (30-27) while the FlameThrowers improved to a gaudy 8-0. To view a photo album, visit our Facebook page and be sure to LIKE us.

Can another rookie win the Race Across America? When the 35th Race Across America (RAAM) starts on June 14 there will be no returning winners in the solo male category but there will be four previous second-place riders all vying for their first win. And then there's the rookie Ralph "Dizzy" Diseviscourt (Luxembourg) that many fans are calling a potential winner, partially because he won last year's Tourtour (Switzerland's 1000-kilometer answer to RAAM), just as Reto Schoch (Switzerland) did in 2011 before winning RAAM 2012 as a rookie and just as Severin Zotter (Austria) did in 2014 before winning RAAM 2015 as a rookie. Diseviscourt remarked, "And Zotter finished third in the Race Across the Alps. And me too. I don't know if that's a good omen or not." Photo by Vic Armijo / RAAM Media. |

Dare to Dream: How James Madison University Became Coed and Shocked the Basketball World
By Lou Campanelli
and Dave Newhouse
|
Former Cal basketball coach Lou Campanelli and local veteran sportswriter Dave Newhouse have co-authored a book chronicling Campanelli's accomplishments as a successful collegiate basketball coach. Campanelli started in 1972, when he arrived at a small teachers college known as Madison College in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. The name was changed to James Madison University and Lou built the basketball program into national prominence before coming to Cal and returning the Bears program into a Pac-10 winner.
Co-author Dave Newhouse will be making the following appearances: Friday, June 10, Berkeley Breakfast Club, 7 a.m. (general author talk); Saturday, June 25, Castro Valley Library, 2 p.m. (general author talk); Saturday, July 23, Montclair Library, Oakland, 3 p.m. (general author talk).
The book can be ordered at Amazon.com and at bookstores.
