Hazardous waste
The Household Hazardous Waste program will host a one-day drop off event in Albany on June 19th from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.   Berkeley residents can drop off materials for free.

Most of us use household chemicals to paint, clean, and maintain our homes, gardens and yards.  But many of these products can be toxic if they're disposed of improperly.  Leftover hazardous waste should never be thrown in the trash or recycling bin, flushed down the toilet or dumped down the drain or storm sewer.

Registration is required for event address and other details.

garageConstruction To Begin On New City Garage
Stalled traffic
Parking in the downtown is already a challenge, and it's about to get worse before it gets better.

Construction will begin soon on a new 720-space downtown parking garage, eventually replacing the 70 year old Center Street Garage, which currently has 420 spaces.  The new garage's more efficient design will more easily move cars through the structure.  It will also add self-storage and valet service for over 300 bicycles, creating the largest bicycle storage area in the City.

The design of the new parking garage reflects the City's commitment to sustainability.  The new Center Street Garage will include rooftop solar panels, high-efficiency LED lighting, and a rainwater collection system to bio-filter and store water for irrigation.  It will also be the hub of a micro-grid that provides emergency power.  In addition, 19 electric vehicle charging stations will be provided.

Construction is scheduled to start in late July, 2016, and finish in August, 2017.

Alternative parking in downtown Berkeley can be found at the nearby Oxford Garage at 2165 Kittredge, the lot on Berkeley Way between Shattuck and Milvia, the Allston Garage at 2061 Allston Way, the Kittredge Garage at 2020 Kittredge Street, and the Promenade Garage at 1936 Addison Street.  In addition, Center and Addison Streets will be re-striped to provide supplemental street parking during construction.

For more information about the Center Street Garage project, please visit: Center Street Garage.
