I'm getting ready for a trip to Washington DC for TNNA. We leave on Friday morning (the 10th) and I'll be back in the store on Wednesday the 15th. Cathy will be in the store while I'm away. This is a trade show that I attend twice a year to see the new yarns, patterns and accessories that are coming for the next season.

SweetGeorgia Yarns Party of Five kit

I've already had a few previews and am excited to see the yarns and colours in person.

Ambah O'Brien
Inara Wrap
We've been featuring Ambah's patterns on the blog for the past week and now we are going to do a KAL. You choose one of her patterns. Knit the shawl and post pictures in our Ravelry group when you are finished. We will draw two names and the winners will receive a Ravelry download code for her Chroma Collection 2016 ebook.

Heritage Days
Saturday June 11 is Heritage Days in Ancaster. Normally Wilson Street is closed in the morning for the parade but reopens for the afternoon. This year it is closed all day. Here are a few suggestions but I can't guarantee how close to the store you can get. Please watch the blog in case we can come up with a better solution.

  • You can come along Mohawk Rd/Rousseaux Street and park on Academy St or Lodor St. Then walk up Lorne Avenue and you will be in the parking lot of the variety store next to us.
  • You can try and talk your way past the police officer at the corner of Wilson St and Rousseaux. I can't make any promises on this but they might let you through.
Frabjous Fibers
Gyre
"frabjous" means joyful, excellent, fabulous -the good feelings your creative outlet should stir in you!

Frabjous Fibers a small business based in beautiful southern Vermont offering their own line of hand-dyed yarns in several fantastic bases from everyday soft and springy superwash merino wool to luscious luxury blends in over 70 colorways. The Mini Skein Packs and Kits are favorites for striping and colorwork projects.

Mini skeins are big on Ravelry right now and Frabjous Fibers has put together some interesting colour combinations. I have knit two shawls in their Cheshire Cat fingering weight. The yarn is supersoft. The colours are amazing.

Knitting Camp
Picking the classes to offer at Camp is always a tough decision. The instructors have so many great classes that they offer.

Saturday afternoon Fiona will be teaching Thumbs Up for Mittens

In the 1st part of this workshop we will look at mitten construction; including ways that the thumb gusset & the top of the mitten can be worked. Fiona will review a variety of increases and decreases - knowledge that you will be able to apply to other types of projects. But that's only the beginning....

In the 2nd part of the class you will use the swatch worked in "Creating Cables" (or another pattern swatch you may like to bring) as a springboard to devise creative ways of incorporating the patterning into a mitten of your own design.

This workshop is geared towards knitters who have a little experience right up to those who are very adventurous.

Happy Knitting!!

Julie, Cathy and Lynn
