Beth Marshall Presents invites you to audition for our 2014-15 theatrical season! We are looking to cast over 100 roles in our upcoming season and seeking strong professional actors both male and female of all types and ethnicities, with particular emphasis on African American male actors ages 35-55, African American Teen Actors M/F (14-20) and African American Female Actors ages 35-50.

Additionally, we are looking for specialty acts and performers with unique skills (acrobats, jugglers, poets, drag queens, aerial artists, burlesque/bellydancers, etc)... with a 10 minute or less 60's themed act.

WHAT - 2014-15 BMP SEASON AUDITIONS

WHERE - Garden Theatre (160 West Plant Street, Winter Garden, Fl. 34787)

WHEN - June 9th,10th 2014 (with additional auditions/select callbacks on June 11th & 16th 2014) NOTE- Play-In--A-Day & Beatnik Squared will be cast directly from general auditions. June 11th is exclusively callbacks for Trayvon Martin Project. June 16th is exclusively callbacks for Doubt A Parable.

TIMES -6-11pm each day. (Plan to be there roughly 30 minutes)

WHAT TO PREPARE - There will be cold readings from the scripts. All of our shows, with the exception of Doubt: A Parable are original new works. Sides from all the scripts will be available at auditions. If you are auditioning for Doubt: A Parable, please come having read the script.
If you are auditioning for BEATNIK SQUARED, please come dressed as a 60's hippie, activist, poet or look alike from the decade or dressed to perform your specialty act. Bring all music, props, etc.. necessary to audition. There is no pianist available, however, you will have access to a piano if needed.
Please be familiar with your schedules during the rehearsals/run for the show(s) you are auditioning for.
Please bring one headshot/resume' to audition.

To schedule an audition appointment, please send your audition request, headshot and resume' to Stasia Kurtiak at Stasia@BethMarshallPresents.com between May 2nd through no later than 5pm June 8th, 2014. If you do not have a photo or resume', please include your age range and ethnicity in your scheduling email. 
In the request email, please list the following in this order: Name, Phone Number, Union Status, Show(s) you are auditioning for and any specific time requests.
You will be responded to with a time slot and confirmation within 24hrs.   

SHOW/CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS
  • PLAY-IN-A-DAY: Sept. 6th, 2014 at Lake Howell High School Theatre
Seeking male & female non-union actors of all types and ethnicities ranging in age from 14 yrs and up to be involved in this annual one-day event. Seven teams of actors will work to create fully produced short plays with the same theme within a 24hr. time frame. Actors need to be available from 6-8pm on Sept. 5th and from 8AM-10:30pm on Sept. 6th. Actors should be able to memorize lines quickly and be open to working with all types of artists ranging from emerging directors/writers to veteran professionals. 

Actors will do cold readings from the scripts.

PLAY-IN-A-DAY is the Beth Marshall Presents season kick-off. Proceeds from the show benefit the 3rd Annual Beth Marshall Presents District 3 Thespian High School Scholarship and the 2014-15 BMP season. Actors are unpaid. Breakfast & Lunch are provided.  

  • THE TRAYVON MARTIN PROJECT (Part 1: A Tribute): Oct 2nd-6th at Valencia College (East) Black Box Theatre
This year long socio-political theatrical collaboration and exploration in partnership with Penguin Point Productions, and Valencia College East begins with the World Premiere of 6 short plays and a poem inspired by the tragic loss of Trayvon Martin. The works carefully explore race relations and equality issues within our culture and specifically within the Central Florida community. Playwrights include: Dennis Neal, Rob Winn Anderson, Janine Klein, James Brendlinger, Paris Crayton lll, Steve Schneider, and poet Rob Gee. Directed by Beth Marshall, Paul Castaneda, and John DiDonna. Each performance will hold a post-show talkback with the audience. Partial proceeds from this production will go to the Trayvon Martin Foundation.

We are seeking an ensemble cast to perform in multiple original 10 minute plays. 

Actors will do cold readings from scripts.

Lead Ensemble Roles will be paid a stipend. Partial Proceeds benefit The Trayvon Martin Foundation. 

Rehearsals begin Sept. 9th. ( Rehearsals are two/three times a week from 6-9pm at Lake Howell High School)

Breakdowns of Roles

3 African Amercian Male Teens  (Age 15-19) - Athletic/Jock type with an even balance of street and book smarts. (Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis types)

1 African American Male (Age 17-19)  A good kid but a scared kid - not the sort you'd ordinarily see in the halls of justice, particularly as an invited guest. Intimidated by his surroundings like most people his age, yet with an appealing sincerity that makes him likelier than most to grab a sympathetic adult's ear.

2 African American Female Teens (Age 16-19) Savvy, Smart, Outgoing, Leader-types.

2 African American Women (Age 30-40's) Maternal, Brave, Powerful -sad from loss of their sons.

4 White Males (Age 40-60) Educated, political, lawyer, politician types.

1 White Female Teen ( Age 15-19) Liberal, bookish

1 White Female Teen (Age 15-19) Street Smart

2 White Female Women (Age 30 and up) Educated Teacher type

1 African American Males (Age 70's plus) Cantankerous to the point of contemptuous. Thunder and brimstone in loafers. Has been around the block and back again, then seen the street renamed in his honor. Utterly secure in his position, and thus unafraid to indulge in righteous theatrics when they suit his purpose, which is often. Does not suffer fools gladly, and sees them almost everywhere.

1 White Male (30's -50's) Strong Storyteller with ability to relate to the audience in narrator fashion (ex. Stage Manager in Our Town style)

1 White Female (Age 18) politically active and not afraid to speak her mind

2 African American Males (Age 40-50's) Father types

1 White Female ( 30's-40's) soccer mom type 

3 Multi-Ethnic Actors (Either Gender Age 30-60) Politically Minded, Outspoken

5 Teens (All Ethnicities Age 14-19)

  • BEATNIK SQUARED - ONE NITE ONLY EVENT ( Nov. 7th, 2014) at THE VENUE Directed by Beth Marshall.
A throwback tribute to all things from the 60's. 

Seeking male/female  AEA and Non-Union actors 16 and up to play atmospheric character types from the 1960's (Poets, Beatniks, Activists, Celebrity Look-Alikes) Also seeking specialty acts : (jugglers, magicians, dancers, performance artists, poets, drag queens with any 60's specialty act)

Specialty Acts- Please come dressed as your character and with all equipment, props, musical instruments etc... you need to perform a 10 minute or less act. 
The role of Janis Joplin is Pre-Cast.

This show has 3 rehearsals only. Select Roles and Specialty Acts- Paid Stipend. 

  • DOUBT: A PARABLE by John Patrick Shanley. Directed by Beth Marshall. Feb 6th-22nd, 2015 at The Garden Theatre
"This Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-Winning drama is an eloquent investigation of truth and consequences.   The play takes place in a private Catholic school in the mid-sixties. "It's a gripping story of suspicion cast on a priest's behavior that is less about scandal and more about fascinatingly nuanced questions of moral certainty."-Variety -

Light Rehearsals begin in Dec. 2014 with full rehearsals beginning in Jan. 3rd 2015.

Actors need to have read the play and be familiar with the script and prepared to do cold readings.

All roles are paid.

1 White Male (Age 35-55) - Father Flynn- Charismatic Priest 

1 White Female (Age 40's-60's) -Sister Alyoysius Beauvier- Strong, intimidating, stoic and in-command nun set in her ways.

1 African American Female (Age 35-45)- Mrs. Muller- Maternal, wants what is best for her son at all costs.

1 White Female (Age 20-30's) Sister James- Naive, Eager, PeaceMaker, Kind-Spirited.


NOTE- Auditions for our Fringe/ June 2015 show of HOODIES (Trayvon Martin Project: Part 3) will take place at a later date.
