Greetings!
We are catching up two months with this Newsline.
Read below about the Georgia Supreme Court's denial of the appeal of the Fowler Shakerag permit. This is a major blow to Chattahoochee River water quality.
In February I attended the Georgia Women Fly Fishers' "Mardi Gras" themed annual fund raiser at Sweetwater Brewery. The place was packed. I spent some of the evening talking to Beverly Booth who runs "Casting for Recovery" in Georgia. She thanked me for UCCTU's support. Those ladies know how to throw a party! UCCTU needs to find an annual event that is on par.
Last month Kevin McGrath and I attended the TU SE Regional meeting in West Virginia. It was a well attended day of good meetings. TU again presented the new website being rolled out. And the goal of member diversity was emphasized. Justifiably tagged or not, TU's future success is not in being thought of as a bunch of "old white guys".
Finally, special thanks to Charlie Bennett, Rick Kinkade, Dutch Earle, Kevin McGrath, and Gerry Mecca who have headed up UCCTU activities covered below.

Since 1985, McLean has been a respected leader, not only within the company, but throughout the fly fishing industry. She is an outstanding angler and fly caster, has fished from Alaska to Florida and has conducted fly casting clinics for both men and women McLean has served on the boards of the Lewis & Clark Trout Unlimited Chapter in Southwest Montana and on the International Women's Fly Fishing Organization. After her presentation, Annette will pull the winning raffle ticket for our Winston Boron IIIx winner's choice fly rod.
A separate raffle will be held for a TFO BVK II reel donated by The Atlanta Fly Fishing School. Some lucky member can leave the meeting Tuesday with a whole new rig!

TU Georgia Council "Fly -Tie-Athlon" Held at Bass Pro
Saturday, March 9 a team from UCCTU joined teams from 6 other Georgia TU chapters in a high visibility fly tying event set up at Bass Pro Shops in Norcross. Thanks to volunteers Dutch Earle, Ed Chamberlain, Ed Sullivan, Bob Schmitt, Andrew Brown, Ricardo Meyer, Bob Foster, and Chris Smith.
Thank you too to all of the sponsors who made donations in support of our team. The event raised money for both Council and UCCTU conservation activities. And the 125 flies tied by the UCCTU will be auctioned off at Chapter meetings. |
SWEEP THE HOOCH 2013 Now in it's third year, this year's river cleanup was the largest yet. Gerry Mecca headed up UCCTU wader volunteers at Jones Bridge. "Thank you" to all of our volunteers. High water prevented waders from entering the water so it was a river bank effort.
