Wayne County Day at the DIA - Free bus transportation for Wayne County residents will be provided by the Detroit Institute of Arts from the Westland Public Library parking lot.  Buses will depart on Saturday, October 11 at 9:30 a.m. and will the leave the DIA at 2:00 p.m. to return to Westland.  Residents will have the opportunity to brows the museum's permanent collection and exhibitions while also participating in some of the museum's scheduled activities.  General museum admission is free for residents of Wayne County.  You must have a reservation for the free bus transportation.  Call (313)883-4005 or register online at tickets.dia.org and click on October 11.

 

Be Proud Be Responsible Workshop - The Westland Youth Assistance Program and Taylor Teen Health Center is hosting a "Be Proud! Be Responsible!" workshop for youth.  Be Proud! Be Responsible! is a pregnancy and HIV/AIDS prevention program for adolescent youth ages 12-18.  It is interactive, fun and most importantly, it works.  The workshop will take place on Saturday, October 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Dorsey Center, located at 32715 Dorsey.  All participants will get a free snack in the morning, free lunch and free prizes.  For more information or to register, please call the Westand Youth Assistance Program at (734)467-7904.

 

 

Monday Madness - Westland golfers should  check out Monday Madness at the Westland Municipal Golf Course. Every Monday, noon to 5 pm, the course has a lunch and golf special: 9 Holes of Golf, Electric Cart, and food - $20 per golfer and $15 for seniors,  The golf course is located at 500 S. Merrimen.
 

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location.

-The Tax Increment Finance Authority will meet on Tuesday, October 14 at 12:00 p.m. at the NEW City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.

  

 

Westland Farmer's Market Held Every Thursday - The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the New Famers Market Pavilion, located in Cental City Park at 1901 Carlson.  This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public.  Residents now have the opportunity to catch a FREE ride to the market at the following locations and times. *All times are approximate and dependent on weather, traffic, available space, etc.

Lunch with Elvis - The Westland Senior Center invited residents to join them for their lunch with Elvis. This rocking event includes music that's a blast from the past! Eat lunch, and listen and dance to music by Elvis. Once again, Lance Slaton will be running the show! Sign-up at the front desk of the Friendship Center for $10 per ticket. The Friendship Center is located at 1119 Newburgh Rd.

 

Friday Night Glow Skate - The Mike Modano Ice Arena has re-opened for the season and Friday Night Glow Skate is back.  Glow skate will run every Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and will cost $4 for kids and $5 for adults for residents.  The cost is 50 cents more for non-resident.  Glow in the dark accessories will be available for purchase in the pro shop.  The Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.
